Flixboss
A better way to browse the Netflix catalog.
July/August were a couple of pretty busy months where I focused on launching new markets. Translations can be sourced quickly and at a good price via upwork (recommended). I only had good experiences with the freelancers there.
During these weeks I managed to launch the following markets:
- The Netherlands (https://nl.flixboss.com)
- France (https://fr.flixboss.com)
- Germany (https://de.flixboss.com)
- Indian (https://in.flixboss.com)
- Italy (https://it.flixboss.com)
- Brazil (https://br.flixboss.com)
The total number of markets is now 15. Focus onwards now lies on SEO, to bring traffic up to reasonable numbers on each of the markets.
I added Adsense advertising once the site got to a couple hundred unique users per day. The first goal is to cover the (rather humble) costs of hosting on Digital Ocean.

Marketing was done by posting on Reddit (good ROI), submitting to directories (questionable if this was time well spent), replying to tweets and some manual link outreach.

Launched Flixboss into the wild. It's based on an open API that's available in multiple English speaking markets, so I decided to open up to a couple right away (US, Canada, Australia and UK).

Programming and design work started. Since it's a side project and I also have a family I haven't been able to spend a ton of time on it. A couple of hours every evening so in the end it took me 4 months to get something out the door.

About
As an avid movie watcher I was extremely frustrated with the Netflix UI for discovering movies and series. I built Flixboss as a way to keep my programming skills relevant and also to scratch my own itch.
