Typically revenues slow down in the summertime. But recently I'm seeing revenues that are in line with the last year's busy season and as much as 1.5X to 1.8X last year's slow season.
Sources of progress?
I bit the bullet and implemented a third-party CRM software. Even though I had coded my own and was very proud of it, I didn't have time to maintain what I had made. Outsourcing the CRM has allowed me to focus on other things and sustain less stress. There are also features of the new CRM that allow us to pitch more work to clients more easily, and clients are going for it.
I bit another bullet and increased prices by more than 25% at the beginning of 2019. (taking my own advice: https://medium.com/@eathankeyboards/you-dont-charge-enough-7457ce4ae775)
This means that we need fewer clients to make the same amount that we used to. It was hard to make that decision and not everyone on the team understood it but we went for it and I think everyone is pretty happy with the choice now.
I also set an ambitious goal of doubling revenues and reaching 1M yearly revenue. Though I might not attain these goals, having them on record forced me to make decisions and take actions like the ones above that might move us in the right direction.
