Japanese learning made easy
by lpares12I would like to present Fluento the website I have been working on the past few months and we just launched this weekend.
Mainly, I have been developing by myself with the help of a friend @seergiue who has more experience than I do with web design! Then, for the content, I have paid (and currently paying) some Japanese people to help me. Also, through the Upwork platform I have hired a freelancer to help me with some drawings.
In Fluento, I would like to share with other people the methods that worked for me and my friends while learning Japanese, and the things we could have improved to make this process faster. Of course, at the end of the day, living in Japan, talking to friends, reading the news in Japanese, or even following a grammar book is the best way to go. But we hope that having Fluento will help other learners, review their knowledge once in a while, even if it does not appear in the content they consume.
The concepts are structured by levels, taking JLPT as a reference, because want it or not, it's the reference for most of Japanese learners. But we try to order the concepts in order of importance and frequency. Instead of throwing in words that no one uses, we try to display the user with words that they will use for sure at some point. With the grammar points it's the same.
For the Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji, we use mnemonics, but of course, everyone can create their own and they don't need to use ours.
One cool feature we have is that users can hibernate the concepts they don't want to learn (or already know) so they will not appear in the daily lessons. And they can learn the concepts instantly, without having to follow the predefined order to get to those concepts!
We would really appreciate any feedback from other learners. This is definitely not the last version, and we will add content as we go (hopefully other languages too), so things can change a lot, and the best for us is if we get feedback from people who might use it.
We would also like to share our roadmap (in order of priority), maybe you guys also have some requests or recommendations that you can give us:

Finish the concepts for the levels N5, N4, N3.

Opening the content section so unregistered users can also access the website for reference.

Add resources section for each of the concepts.

For each of the levels, create some content on how to improve, better grammar explanations and some reading and listening materials in a form of a Blog.

Community section to ask question and help each other.

Release an app.

Add more levels and languages.

Happy to hear! It's been a while I don't update the contetnt but I think there's already enough content for a beginner to work through it in one year :)

curious why people learn Japanese

Really fascinated with the culture really. Been wanting to learn something for a while now, and I chose Japanese because it was different than what a lot of people in the mid-west would ever think of learning.

Speaking for myself, I set the goal of visiting Universal Studios' Nintendo park in Japan. Also, there are many Japanese media that I wished I could understand in their original form.
As for Fluento, it's kind of hard to commit even to a free trial when you don't have any idea of what you would be signing in to. A few screenshots or videos to give prospective users some idea of what's in store for them would be very welcome.

You can check the demo by clicking start. Thought it was quite visible, you don't need to sign up or anything. It's quite similar to Duolingo's demo tbf.
Or you mean you want to see what content and so on is after you have signed up?-

Oh, I thought that would take me to a registration page!
It is visible, but it wasn't entirely clear to me what would happen when I clicked "start". Why not replace it with something more specific like "See how it works" or "Meet your first Japanese kanji"?

Maybe I'll change the text then. I kind of copied Duolingo (they have a "start now"), but maybe it's not clear enough in my case! Can't compare myself to them since they have bigger reputation and everyone knows more or less how it works.

Learning is not always about achieving a goal but about having fun while doing it. And even though it can be frustrating at times, it's an enjoyable process. Even more when you get to visit such a beautiful country and see that your years of study are rewarded by a small chat with someone at a random train station.
Learning, almost any topic, can be really satisfying! Same as people climb mountains or dive in the sea, some others also enjoy mastering other languages. And Japanese is a beautiful language to learn, if I compare it with the other ones I can speak!

I like Japanese, actually, I spent a year learning Japanese back when I was in college.
However have forgot most of them because I fail to use them often later in life.
I learned English as well, and because English is so useful (at least to me), I use it on a daily basis, instead of lost it, my English skills improve a lot over time
Looking back, I wish I had "Begin with end in mind", know the why, otherwise, all those books I read, the foreign languages I learn, just gone with wind
