December 21, 2025 I got sick of focus apps that spy on you — so I built one that actually respects your privacy and your flow

Hey Indie Hackers,

Focus tools have a bad rap these days, and they kind of deserve it.

Most of them track everything you do, sell your data, push notifications, and turn deep work into another subscription-fueled distraction machine. They promise flow state but deliver guilt, streaks, and endless upsells.

It didn’t used to be like this. Remember when a clean timer, some background sounds, and a simple task list were enough to get real work done? No accounts required, no analytics dashboard watching you, no “AI” guessing your next move.

Somewhere we lost that. Apps got bloated. Privacy got sacrificed. Deep focus turned into a chore instead of a joy.

So I decided to bring back the magic — the way it should be.

That’s why I built Focuswift.

Focuswift is a simple, powerful focus tool designed for people who want deep work without being treated like a data product.

Here’s what it’s about:

  • Minimal, distraction-free UI that just fades away when you’re in the zone

  • Binaural beats & custom immersion studio (mix nature sounds, waves, etc. — all built-in, no extra apps)

  • Smart, optional gamification (a calm forest that grows with your real focus time — no pressure streaks)

  • Offline-first AI for suggestions and insights (everything processed locally, nothing sent to servers)

  • End-to-end encrypted tasks, projects, and notes — your data stays yours, always

  • Zero tracking, zero ads, zero creepy analytics

It’s a web app right now (focuswift.com — works beautifully on desktop browsers), with native Mac and Windows apps coming soon. (No mobile version planned — because phones are the biggest focus killers out there, right?)

I just launched it recently, bootstrapped and solo. It’s priced fairly because good tools shouldn’t come at the cost of your privacy.

The real joy of deep focus is still there — it’s just been buried under bad incentives and surveillance.

Focuswift is my love letter to that clean, uninterrupted flow state. A fresh start.

I’d love your honest feedback — try it out at focuswift.com, break it, tell me what’s missing, or if it actually helped you get into flow.

Thanks for reading,
