Foodba
Digital tooling for Restaurants
Having received our first payment ever in July 2020, we've been steadily growing the number of customers and so the revenue.
The #1 acquisition channel right now is the π search ads. The next major target is to actually move away from that and develop channels that would supersede it.
We are also experimenting with direct sales locally in London to get the opportunity to truly connect and make friends with the customers.
Today is the first time I'm talking about Foodba publically.
It's never been a secret project, no. For 1.5 years, we've been so busy chasing feedback and tinkering with the product that the idea of getting any kind of public exposure had stayed at the bottom of our backlog.
But here I am, sipping my Sunday evening tea while writing this.
Writing up a short piece and putting it on the Internet is technically one of the simplest things to do, but it's hard to express the level of insecurity I'm feeling.
We'll be sharing more details and stories over time, but here's Foodba in a nutshell:
- Long-term, we want to build top-grade tooling for food venues: from digital menus to marketing tools.
We believe that IT will finally penetrate the food industry, and we want to empower the venues to provide an excellent digital experience while staying independent from various Doordash-es of the world.
-
Short-term, we are riding the wave of helping restaurants put their menu online for both the in-venue use and to serve the users on the Internet. Over the last year, we saw 10s of "qr code menu" services come and go. We are building the one to stay.
-
Two co-founders. We share a lot of responsibilities, but I specialize in coding, and my partner specializes in product and business development.
-
We aim for the global market, but, at this stage, focusing on the UK. We crossed the $1000 MRR mark in July while having 100s of customers and maybe 10s of them actually loving us. π
-
We try to stay as customer-centric as possible. We do things that don't scale and try to get our first 100 of True Fans.
-
We are bootstrapped: we burn through our savings while working full-time.

About
We believe that by 2030 most of the world's restaurants will use different kinds of digital experiences in place of how we browse and order food nowadays. And we want to be the #1 provider of that service worldwide.

Congrats! π
How do you make money? from the landing page I got the impression that the entire service is free.
Right, my bad! π Thanks for the question.
The current LP was created to test a specific hypothesis that involved giving away the service for free. We are starting to monetize it with two paid tiers (and no free one), and we are going to change the LP in October.
We have a satellite service β https://foodeon.com/ β targeted at the Russian-speaking audience, and it has always been paid. Same product, same business, different brand.
