Today I would like to introduce you to my current project:

The foodblog platform foodblogr.com - as an alternative to Wordpress & Co.

The idea came indirectly from my girlfriend. She has been a food blogger for many years. Together we were able to make her blog grow on Wordpress basis, however, we struggle with the technology every now and then. Even I as a software developer am sometimes desperate because it takes various plugins, some of which do not work well together. Every successful wordpress food blog needs at least one plugin to prepare recipes so that Google will display them in rich snippets. Anyone familiar with Wordpress knows that there are often dozens more plugins. For foodies who just want to post recipes, that's too much technical effort. And a hurdle that keeps many from starting. So I came up with the idea of developing a platform specialized for food blogs: take foodblogr.com.

Ok, I admit: There is also a bit of the classic "I'm a developer, I can do it better" approach behind it ;-)

The Beta

After several months of development, the time has come and I'm looking for first beta testers. Maybe you have feedback about the site? About the product? Would you like to start a food blog yourself or do you know someone who is planning to do so? Then register for free at:

English: https://en.foodblogr.com/foodblog-platform
German: https://www.foodblogr.com/foodblog-plattform

For the tech geeks: A look behind the scenes

I would like to use only German or European services if possible, as this allows me to meet the high hurdles of the GDPR without much effort. Especially as a single developer I want to spend so little time and money on lawyers. The money has to be earned first.

The platform consists of several microservices running on a dedicated server at IONOS. Since I come from frontend development, I use Node.js in the backend. During the development, I learned to love NestJS. A Node.js framework that does a lot of work for me Angular-like. The API and rendering of the web pages is done with it. The frontend is written in Angular.

Where do we go from here?

There are certainly still some bugs hidden in the software. Billing is also still a construction site. I still have to work on that. But my current focus for the next few weeks is on getting users onto the platform. Since I'm a developer, that's a little hard for me. If you're a sales/marketing guru who's up for pushing the product forward with me, feel free to get in touch! Otherwise, I will fight my way through it.

I'd be happy to take you on the rest of the journey.

Thanks also to the IH community:

First of all to @yassineze , the developer of the testing framework testkit.app, who brought me to IH and with whom I regularly share progress.

Thanks also to @m5blum. His tracking platform pirsch.io is used internally to track client sites. It's a great, simple tool!

Domain inspiration came from @debbie_w, who sold me on a similar spelling for cheap: foodbloggr.com. However, I decided to use the spelling "foodblogr" because I think it's visually nicer. What do you think? Which spelling would you have preferred?

Hi Oliver, Congratulation on the launch. Currently working on a Saas myself and i can tell it's not easy. I dont know much about the expectations of foodblogers but i would love to beta test for the technical and functional aspect. I also forwarded it to some people (German founders need to support each other Haha).
Ps : You made the right decision with the domain name.

      Hi Ulrich, thank you.

What kind of product are you working on? Let's chat about it in the days to come.

You can register and just play around a bit. Any feedback is helpful. :-)

It's a Saas that does provide checkout and invoicing to small businesses. My MVP is not live yet. It'll be ready in 2 weeks. I created the linkedin just yesterday... https://www.linkedin.com/company/trysettlebase

Sounds interesting, I'd love to see it live. I assume you will also report on it here on IH? I actually don't have LinkedIn.

ok just tested it for a while. it's really a nice to use product with a good design. Just few remarks:

1- When creating the recipe, i tried to add images for the ingrdients and it didn't work. i've tried to add a video too and it didnt work.
2- Comments are not displayed in dashboard.

Congratulations on the launch! You really put some effort into the design since I've last seen it, good stuff! :)

Foodblogr looks nicer indeed, but I would have preferred Foodblogger (like the person doing it, not the thing you put your content on).

    Btw. DSGVO translates to GDPR.

      Thank you!

Regarding the domain. Unfortunately, I do not have the correct spelling "foodblogger.com". The price for this is too high for me. I only have "foodblogr.com" and "foodbloggr.com". Both without "e".

Thanks for the typo hint, I have updated it..
