For Sale Not Boring
Real estate listings that don’t suck
I polished my MVP to a good enough degree that it felt like the right time to attempt to show it around in public. Since the site is Chicago-centric, I found a subreddit that seemed like a good fit.
After posting I started getting a trickle of traffic to the site for the first time. Someone even followed my brand-new Instagram account.
There was only one comment on the Reddit thread but it was positive and constructive.
Very gratifying!
The first name I had for this project was “Homes That Are Not Boring” which was meant to be ironically long but shortly just felt stupid. I came up with “For Sale Not Boring” as a spin on “For Sale By Owner” and thought it rolled off the tongue a little better.
I bought the domain and built a barebones site.
MVP accomplished.

After four years working as a content manager at Gogo, I got laid off due to COVID-19. I tried turning the negative energy I felt about the situation into creative energy by coming up with a self-directed project. The day before, a friend shared a link to a home he just made an offer on and I was reminded of my first-time home-buying experience the year prior. I realized how many parts of it could have been better. FSNB is my version of what I would have wanted to use when I was searching for a home.
