May 20, 2023 Updates - Next challenge: Bot or Not?

Hello everyone,

It's been nearly 45 days since I launched Free Blog Post Generator. I want to give some updates and share what I have learnt so far.

If you check my previous posts, you will see that last time I was excited to see the Free Blog Post Generator was indexed on https://theresanaiforthat.com/ which lead to increased traffic on the website.

That was good because it encouraged me to implement a logging mechanism to the website to have more insights about the successful sessions of the visitors. If I wouldn't see an inreased traffic on the Google Analytics page, I wouldn't bother to add the logging. Later I noticed a critical problem and solved it thanks to the logs. However, I also realized that the traffic was strange...

Even though I was receiving continuous traffic, the form start event was not increasing and the session per user especially from the U.S and Canada were around 2 seconds. At that point I understood that it was just the bots increasing the traffic. I didn't really care at first because they were harmless. They were visiting the page and scrolling in the page (which is weird considering the nature of my web application).

After a while I started to receive even more traffic from similar AI application indexing websites. But this time they were not that harmless. The bots from those websites started to send search requests and that was costing me money. In 1 day, the event count has increased from 20-30 to 400. That time I decided to add a security level. This is going to be my next challenge. I started by creating an account on Cloudflare and implementing some basic WAF rules. I kept them simple and not very restrictive because I don't want to block the real visitors. I am planning to monitor the traffic for a couple of days and if it is not enough, I will think of other measurements and I will post the updates here.

One great accomplishment though, I managed to increase the user sessions by implementing a simple strategy. Previously, users were able to see the results of only 1 search. This was leading them not repeating the search or leave the website after that. I added a session caching so up to 3 search results stay there for 30 minutes. This way, the users can also try the same topic with different keywords.

Another great accomplishment is that I started to have visitors all around the world that actually use the website. I still don't really know why they are using it instead of ChatGPT but I am looking forward to figure it out.

The website is now on the 5th page of Google if you search "free blog post generator". I still don't know how to increase SEO and its rank on Google. I would appreciate some help in there.

Last of all, I keep learning new things and expand my knowledge in the application management.

Please visit the website if you have time (https://www.freeblogpostgenerator.com/) and if you have any ideas or recommendations, please contact me! I am looking forward to hear any kind of ideas.

Best regards,
Utku

May 1, 2023 First Weeks and Progress - Importance of Analytics

Hello everyone,

Today, I want to share one experiment I am conducting for my hobby project, Free Blog Post Generator.

I launched the platform almost a month ago and started implementing some common Analytics tools.

I did some research and started with Google, Bing, Yandex indexing. I was hoping to receive some visitors directly from search engines as I thought I had an advantage to be listed in the first pages because of the self-explanatory url (https://www.freeblogpostgenerator.com/) of the website and fast page load speed. So far I didn't receive a single visitor from organic search :(

Second thing I did was to launch my product on ProductHunt as @dogukantezcan thoughtfully recommended. I appreciate the advice but unfortunately the results of that one was also not what I was expecting. I had 7 visitors in almost 2 weeks...

Thing is, when I started developing the platform, I was not expecting any visitors at all. I had 0 expectations because I was thinking that the idea was not very creative and not really solving any problems. The statistics of my returning visitors reflected this, among 200 visitors with only 4 people visiting the website for the second time in three weeks, and probably two of them being ME :)

Additionally, the average user session duration was only 33 seconds. Considering I spent so much time testing the website on live, the actual users came to website, clicked the search button and left.

All these SAD statistics are from Google Analytics and Google Search Console by the way.

After seeing all these facts, I lost hope and my enthusiasm to spend my spare time for the project and I was thinking about leaving it aside for a while and check it again in a month or so and shut it down if the results were the same.

Lately, something happened. I was lucky enough that my website is listed on https://theresanaiforthat.com/ among thousands of other. As I understand, that is a website that is indexing AI platforms with short descriptions by using AI :) I received 50 visitors in less than a week and I was actually excited for that.

Even though everything was smooth and working well when I tested the platform, I spent some time for implementing a logging mechanism for the crashes and incomplete requests just in case. I checked the logs a day later and what I saw blew my mind...

EVERY 2 REQUESTS OUT OF 3 WAS RECEIVING "429 Too Many Requests" RESPONSE.

This may have been the reason for visitors not spending more time on the website and the low number of returning visitors.

Today, I spent a couple of hours and applied a quick fix which I'm not sure will work or not in live but now I have the logs!

After the fix, I expect an increase in the number of revisits and a decrease in the number of incomplete requests.

I will check the results in a few days and update here with another post.

Best regards,
Utku

April 10, 2023 Landed on Google!

Hello everyone, I would like to share that the Free Blog Post Generator is now listed on the 17th page of the Google Search with the keywords: "free blog post generator" :)

Today, I received 3-4 random visitors from around the world who probably found it on Indie Hackers. So far, I have done nothing other than setting up the website, adding analytics tools, requesting to be indexed by search engines, and writing 2 blog entries about it.

To be honest, I am not sure how to proceed from here. I will keep adding some features to the platform but on the other hand, I feel like if I can't get traffic to the website, it may be for nothing.

As I shared before, my main goal is to create a somewhat useful product that may help somebody to save some time while creating content, and to learn about the topics I want to learn in the process.

And yet, I would like to work towards making the website to be more reachable. Therefore, I would love to hear some ideas from the great minds who happen to view this post, on how to make the Free Blog Post Generator more visible to the world.

Best regards,
Utku

April 9, 2023 Free Blog Post Generator with no guarantees :)

Hello fellow entrepreneurs and content creators,

I'm excited to share a project I've been working on as a side hustle for the past month: Free Blog Post Generator - a platform that generates blog posts within seconds (or minutes depending on OpenAI server traffic), saving you hours of brainstorming and idea generation.

As a software developer, I've always been passionate about creating products that make people's lives easier. That's why I decided to dive into the world of SEO and web design to develop a solution that enables bloggers and content creators to focus on what matters most - creating high-quality content.

You may wonder if it's repetitive or not original enough or if people need it.
But my answer is simple - I don't care. My main goal is to learn about the things I've wanted to learn for some time now and maybe help a few people who stumbled upon my website (that's why it's free).

If you're a content creator, I hope this platform helps you create engaging content with ease or if you are an entrepreneur it inspires you for your next big idea.

I just published the website and my next goal is to list the website on the first page of Google when searching with its name. Currently, it's not even on the Google search index yet. :)

If you want to support my project, you can provide feedback on your experience using the website and suggestions for improvement. You can also help by spreading the word about the website. Additionally, check back from time to time as I plan to add cool features such as adding keywords for generated blog posts, caching multiple results, social platform sharing, improving result accuracy, humanizing content results, providing post type variations for target platforms, and creating an AI wrapper model to enhance the results.

I'm still figuring out how to reduce response time from the OpenAI API, but I'm committed to maximizing efficiency. If you already know how I can do that, I would appreciate your knowledge transfer.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope to see you soon on the Free Blog Post Generator.

Best regards,
Utku

April 7, 2023 Launching My Blog Post Generator Website: Seeking Advice on How to Attract Visitors and Improve SEO

Hello everyone,

I'm excited to share with you my new website which I just launched. I started developing this website about a month ago as a hobby project to learn more about web design, ChatGPT, and SEO and spent around 80 hours to build it so far. It's a blog post generator website that I hope will be useful to others.

While I am new to this, I am eager to learn more about how to attract visitors to my website. As of now, I have not had any visitors to my website yet, and I'm not sure if I will ever have. I am hoping to get some advice on how to improve my website's SEO and attract organic traffic.

As a beginner, I am looking for suggestions on how to improve my website's design and functionality. I am open to any feedback on how to make my website more user-friendly, engaging, and visually appealing.

If you have any tips or tricks for improving website traffic, please share them with me. I am excited to learn from all of you and grateful for any advice you can offer.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Utku
