Smart Tools. Zero Hassle

September 17, 2025 I never thought people would actually use my tools… but they did

A few months ago, I started building free online tools. Honestly, it wasn’t some big business plan. It was just me, sitting at my desk, frustrated because I couldn’t find a simple tool that worked the way I wanted.

So I thought: “Why not build my own?”

The first version was ugly, half-broken, and super basic. I almost didn’t publish it because I felt like:

  • There are already 1000 tools like this.

  • Who’s going to care about mine?

But I hit “publish” anyway.

What happened next surprised me

Within a few days, a couple of people actually used it. Then one person emailed me just to say: “Thanks, this saved me time.”

That blew my mind. It wasn’t thousands of users, but it was proof that even something small can help someone in a real way.

👉 That’s when I decided to create a small platform called Free IT Tools Online, where I keep building and sharing simple tools that solve everyday problems.

Lessons I’m learning along the way

  • Solve your own problems first. If you need it, chances are at least 10 other people do too.

  • Keep it dead simple. I stripped away fancy features, and usage actually went up.

  • Distribution is harder than coding. Building took me 3 days. Getting people to find it took weeks.

  • Numbers don’t lie. My first month: ~200 visitors. My “wow moment”: 5 emails with genuine feedback.

Where I’m heading

Now I’m slowly building a small library of free tools. My goal isn’t instant monetization—it’s just to make things people actually use. Long term, I’d love to grow to 10k monthly visitors and then experiment with ads, affiliates, or maybe a premium version.

What I’d love to know from you

  • If you’ve built free tools, how did you grow adoption?

  • What’s your favorite underrated way of distributing something new?

  • How did you eventually monetize (if at all)?

👉 TL;DR: I started building free tools for fun, didn’t think anyone would care, and now I’m realizing even small, simple tools can create real value. You can check out my project here: Free IT Tools Online.
