February 9, 2026 Show IH: Launched FreeAIOCR – Free AI OCR that actually gets code, formulas & diagrams right

Hey Indie Hackers 👋

Just shipped my side project: FreeAIOCR.com — a 100% free online AI-powered OCR tool built specifically for devs, researchers, and anyone dealing with technical screenshots.

Tagline: Images to code, LaTeX & diagrams — free AI OCR that actually understands tech content.

Why I built it

Standard OCR tools mangle code snippets, destroy math equations, turn flowcharts into nonsense, and make tables unreadable. Cleanup takes forever, and paid ones often feel sketchy with your data.

I wanted something that:

- Understands structure (syntax-highlighted code, proper LaTeX math, Mermaid diagrams, clean tables)

- Outputs instantly editable formats: plain text, LaTeX, Mermaid, Markdown, HTML

- Is completely free, no sign-up, no quotas

- Processes privately (real-time, encrypted, deleted immediately after — no storage/logging)

What it does right now

Upload (or drag-drop) any image → get accurate extraction of:

- Program code (ready to copy-paste)

- Math formulas (LaTeX)

- Flowcharts/diagrams (Mermaid)

- Tables (Markdown/HTML)

- Regular text too, of course

No fluff, no BS — just a tool I wish existed when I was grinding through lecture notes, Stack Overflow screenshots, or whiteboard photos.

It's early days (v1, built solo), so feedback is gold:

- What technical content do you OCR most?

- Any formats missing? (e.g. PlantUML, more code langs)

- Bugs? Weird outputs? Hit me!

Try it here: https://freeaiocr.com

(And if you add it to your Indie Hackers products dashboard, I'd appreciate the link love ❤️)

Thanks for reading — excited to hear your thoughts! 🚀
