March 24, 2021 Full Stack Courses reaches $200+ MRR!

The popularity of my courses has truly exploded, as well as revenue from them. I credit this boost in revenue to expanding to both Udemy and Tutorialspoint, as well as offering a generous preview for most courses (in some cases up to half of the lessons!) on YouTube for free.

I believe my marketing on Instagram and Facebook has helped as well. (Marketing in the sense of a few posts here and there. I have yet to run an ad campaign on them.)

The challenge I've set for myself is at least $1000 MRR, and as current sales are going, this should equate to approximately creating 7 more courses.

The challenges for me now become:

  1. If I can brainstorm enough interesting and quality courses to make a full 6-7 more courses (and choosing what I believe will have the highest impact), and

  2. The amount of time so many courses will take. Most courses require a huge effort on my part, taking a total of 3 weeks or more (typically nearly a month!) to plan out, record, edit, and then upload to the various platforms I sell them on.

Additionally, I have to consider the ever-changing software environment. This recurring revenue model WILL decay as technologies change - though I try to create courses using technologies and software concepts that should withstand the test of time for years to come. (Look at Bash for example; Bash is over 30 years old and still widely used today!)

March 24, 2021 New Bash Course Released!

Today, I'm releasing the latest course in my full stack courses, titled "Bash Commands and Scripting - From Beginner to Expert"! I believe knowing some basic bash commands and how to script it bash are essential skills for any developer, whether you are writing Python, C#, JavaScript, or working for web, native, or desktop. This 23 lesson course is a sweeping overview of a variety of bash commands, aliases, functions, and other scripting techniques I've picked up in my professional software work.

Honestly, I could have made a 50 lesson course, as the various ways to use Bash are endless depending on the use case at hand, but this course focused on what I've used the most as a seasoned full stack software engineer, and believe can help beginners the most.

February 25, 2021 Multiple Courses Released!

After a far too long hiatus, I released a flurry of courses, and expanded my course platforms to both Udemy and Tutorialspoint. The first of these courses, titled "Mastering Bitbucket Pipelines for Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment" was actually recorded in early 2020, but I was so bogged down with other work in 2020 that I never edited down the videos or published it!

The following course, "Advanced TypeScript: Generic Search, Sorting, and Filtering", was recorded in early March. I really have appreciated the reviews I've been seeing for these two courses, especially the Advanced TypeScript course.

It appears that my thesis that there is a high demand for advanced, real world, applied full-stack software courses is true, and I have ideas for plenty of more such courses! The "Advanced TypeScript" theme may become its own course track altogether.

November 1, 2018 First Course Published

My first course that I ever created, titled "Build Your Personal Blog Website with GatsbyJS", was released in November of 2018. I was initially recruited to create this course by someone at SkillShare, who found me through my Full Stack blog (https://chrisfrew.in). Through the years as Gatsby has gained popularity, the course has been taken by over 150 people!
