GamingChairsXP - Fake Review Checker
See through fake reviews before you buy.
Fakespot shut down in July 2025. Millions of Amazon shoppers lost their go-to tool for spotting fake reviews overnight, and nothing free replaced it.
As a side-project, I run GamingChairsXP, a gaming chair review site, and fake reviews are a genuine problem in this niche, maybe more-so than others. Budget brands routinely inflate ratings through incentivized reviews - our data shows gaming chairs lose an average of 1.3 stars between short-term and long-term owner ratings. That gap is almost entirely driven by fake early reviews losing out over-time.
So I decided I would build something to remedy the gap. Namely, the GamingChairsXP Fake Review Detector - a free (now) Chrome (+ Firefox, Edge, Brave (any chromium)) extension that scores every Amazon review across 10 signals: rapid posting patterns, review spikes, generic praise, unboxing-only language, zero negatives, etc. What it does is: injects an overlay directly onto Amazon product pages showing fake risk %; an adjusted star rating, and a brand trust grade.
No account. No API key. No data sent anywhere. Runs entirely in your browser.
It's nearly live on the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons, and live on Edge Add-ons. There's also a Tampermonkey userscript on Greasy Fork if you prefer that route.
Would love feedback (go easy on me please) from anyone who tries it - especially curious whether the signal weighting feels accurate across categories outside gaming chairs?

The part I'd be most curious about isn't the weighting.
It's the 1.3-star gap.
Reading this, it feels like the detector is built on the assumption that the gap is primarily a review-quality problem.
Have you found anything that made you doubt that explanation?
I'm asking because gaming chairs seem like one of those categories where expectations can change just as much as the product itself.
