January 28, 2026 PlantUML Gantt Chart Created Visually

Hi everyone!

If you plan projects using Gantt charts, I have a tip for you on a great and completely free solution with PlantUML. PlantUML is a tool that allows you to generate diagrams using simple text notation, which is ideal for automating and versioning project documentation. You can use it to create professional Gantt charts in SVG format, which has the advantage of being vector-based—meaning it's sharp and easy to read at any zoom level. This format is also easy to insert into presentations, reports, or websites, making it much easier to share and present your plans to colleagues or clients.

However, the only obstacle is that you have to remember complex syntax for various parameters—for example, defining tasks, their duration, dependencies, milestones, or resources. This can be difficult and time-consuming for someone who is not used to working with code or scripts. In addition, for larger projects with many tasks and dependencies, manually writing such notes can lead to errors or ambiguities.

That's why I decided to simplify it and create a classic task editor, similar to those we know from other (mostly paid) applications. This editor allows intuitive task entry and editing directly in the user interface—just fill in the task name, start and end dates, assign dependencies, or mark priorities without having to write code. The editor automatically generates the corresponding PlantUML script and creates the resulting Gantt chart, so the user can immediately see a visualization of their project.

I initially developed this tool for myself to make planning my own projects easier. I gradually became so enthusiastic about it that I refined it into the form I now offer publicly to anyone interested. One advantage is that the editor supports an unlimited number of projects, so you can manage multiple plans at once—for example, work projects, personal tasks, or study plans. All data remains only in your web browser, which means that it is not automatically stored on any server and you have full control over your information. In addition, it is possible to export data to a JSON file, which allows for backup, sharing, or further editing in other tools.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback—your opinions, suggestions for improvement, or even bug reports will help me further improve the tool and tailor it to the needs of users. If you like the editor and find it useful, feel free to share it with your friends or colleagues. It is completely free, and I plan to keep it that way so that it is accessible to as many users as possible without financial barriers. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to share their opinions – your support is a great motivation for me!

About

I found a great tool for generating Gantt charts called PlantUML, but it requires precise syntax, which is why many people don't use it. I decided to make a tool originally for myself. Now it's for everyone :-)
