Gather | Tasks and Journal
Task and journal app
After many attempts (and failures) to tame my notes with different apps, I co-created an app called Gather | Tasks & Journal. It aims to be my perfect note taking app and it gets very close (and is being improved constantly). It solves the issues I had with the previous apps and also does a few things automatically in the background so I don't have to.
Overall, Gather is a linear log of your life. The daily log is the bread and butter of note taking and solves the question of “what did I do today?” without having a jumbled mess of notes.
Gather also has monthly and yearly logs. This is to track things at a higher level. You can take notes or tasks on a month or year and move it to your daily log if you need it.
Gather has no inbox. To avoid a massive backlog of unimportant tasks, Gather makes you decide what is really important to you. If you didn’t get to a task today, you have to decide if it is actually worth doing. If it is, move it to a log in the future when you think you can do it. If it isn’t worth doing, it can stay where it is and be left behind (this is a good thing!). You don’t have to worry about losing important tasks. You can always search for it or go back to the log you left it on.
With Gather, projects are more trackable and actionable. You can take notes or add tasks to your logs but you can also put those same notes and tasks on projects. For me, this was a game changer. I can create a project with a few tasks and move them to my log when I am ready. I keep the sanity of tracking my life in a linear manner, but also have projects that are meaningful and actionable.
Gather attempts to automatically track things that would otherwise be manual in something like Google Keep, Evernote, a text file or bullet journal. We support automatically tracking calendar events that show up directly in your daily log. We also support automatically tracking your weather and location (if you turn on this feature and give permission of course!). This makes it easy to keep a history of what your days were like and see the important information on your daily log.
