January 26, 2026 I built a dedicated Pinterest Pin Generator because Canva was too slow

Hi Indie Hackers! 👋

I just launched GenPin (https://genpin.co), a focused tool designed to solve a specific pain point I had: creating fresh, high-quality Pinterest content at scale without spending hours tweaking designs.

😫 The Problem

If you're doing Pinterest marketing, you know the algorithm craves fresh content. I found myself spending way too much time in general-purpose design tools just trying to swap out text and images for the same 5 layouts. It was repetitive and drained my creative energy. I wanted something that could take my content and spit out varied, ready-to-post pins instantly.

🚀 The Solution: GenPin

GenPin is not a full-blown design editor. It's a generator.

  • Templates First: 6 professional, algorithm-friendly layouts (Listicle, Quote, Recipe, etc.).

  • Instant Variations: You type your text once, and it generates multiple color/style variations instantly.

  • Pinterest-Specific Tools: It has a built-in "Safe Zone" overlay (so your text doesn't get cut off by UI buttons) and a specialized Contrast Checker for readability.

  • Fast Export: Download high-res (1000x1500px) images without watermarks.

🛠️ The Tech Stack

I built this as a solo founder using a modern, lightweight stack to keep it fast:

  • Frontend: Astro + React — best of both worlds for performance and interactivity.

  • Styling: Tailwind CSS + Shadcn/UI.

  • Backend: Supabase for auth and data.

  • Payments: Dodo Payments integration.

  • Image Gen: Client-side generation using html-to-image (keeps server costs low!).

📉 The "Trough of Sorrow" (Challenges)

The hardest part was definitely mobile responsiveness for the canvas editor. Making a complex "design preview" look good and function correctly on a phone screen—where you need to see safe zones, toggle mobile views, and handle touch interactions—was a unexpectedly deep rabbit hole. Also, getting the "Text Styling" (like the sticker effect) to render consistently across different browsers was a tricky CSS challenge!

🙏 Feedback Requested

I've essentially launched an MVP. It's fully functional with 15 free credits on signup (no card required).

I'd love to hear your thoughts:

  1. Is the value prop clear? "Generator" vs "Editor"?

  2. For those who use Pinterest, is the "bulk variation" feature actually solving your main pain point?

Thanks for checking it out!

I started it as a personal project for my Pinterest-based website and it solved a real problem I was facing - I needed a way to generate pins at scale without spending hours in design tools. After building it for myself
