GitDuck
Screen and code sharing
Check our progress on https://twitter.com/GitDuckHQ
GitDuck is a video call tool built for developers.
A lot of stuff are happening, but we are not keeping this page updated anymore. Please check our changelog published on Twitter to read the latest news and see the recent features.
Thank you!
Super excited that GitDuck was included in the Top 50 Developers Tools of 2019 by Stackshare along with other amazing products.
We are building the best screen sharing tool for developers and that's just the beginning! We have been quietly shipping new features to the GitDuck and making it faster and more robust every day. Check it out at GitDuck.com.
-
β‘οΈNew recording UX. Now it's much faster to start recording and it's also clearer to know that you are recording.
-
π Search. Discover coding videos by searching for a programming language, title, author, etc.
-
π Real-time commit linking. If you are live streaming, now your commits can be shown in real-time.
-
πΊ Related videos. Below each coding video, we are showing other related content. Could be from the same project, team, language, etc.
-
πΉ Pause and record more. You can stop a recording and record more content later in the same video. Great for explaining some new about an existing project.
You can follow our public roadmap
You can also watch me showing these features https://gitduck.com/watch/5e35c80735776f571f1497bd
thank you!

Recently we launched a new way to record a coding video without any external software (just using the GitDuck web app). Today we are celebrating 7000 coding videos watched!
This milestone was only accomplished after numerous iterations on our recording software. The recent iteration made it even easier to record as you can record and share without installing any app.
We also launched a new VS Code extension that allows developers to link their code to the video. So if you make a commit while recording a video, it can be directly linked to the video timestamps. Check an example: https://gitduck.com/watch/5e04d1e63ff2e62690f7128f

GitDuck now allows you to create teams and record private coding sessions that only your teammates can watch. You can do it by first creating your team and inviting other developers to join it.
In the GitDuck extension, you can now select your team and this will start the streaming that only your team can watch and interact.
In case you are curious what are the next things we are going to work on, our roadmap is available here https://trello.com/b/nl38gbF4/gitduck-transparent-roadmap
Besides Teams, we added this week:
- New privacy settings (teams, public, private)
- Published new extension version for VS Code
- Pagination for profile, teams and explore page
- New settings UX
- New Header UI/UX
- Crisp chat (in case you need any help).
You can watch a 1min demo here https://gitduck.com/watch/5dc5bd0d0346a3481f507ba8

We have been looking forward to open it for a while. We are excited about the improvements that are coming and even more to develop it in an open and transparent way.
Check it out at https://github.com/gitduckhq/vscode-extension
Besides that, you can now chat in the coding sessions
So if you are sharing code with your team, they can leave comments or questions to you. So you can see side-by-side the code, the video, and the chat.

We upgraded our logo some weeks ago, but now we got some time to talk about it and share the process. As we are creating this screen sharing tool, we were able to record the whole design process and generate a small timelapse video.
You can read more about the process we followed here https://gitduck.com/blog/how-to-design-a-logo-with-the-rubber-duck-methodology/
and watch the timelapse here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=la-7r1nc-TM

We recently launched GitDuck in the VS Code marketplace and we now support Mac and Windows!
This week we added 3 good features:
βοΈ Code snippets
You can now link any code to a video without doing a commit. Much easier for asking for help or doing a tutorial.
π Embed
You can now embed your coding sessions anywhere you want.
π Private coding sessions
Record private coding sessions. Just go to your video and switch visibility to hidden
You can watch the demo of this update here https://gitduck.com/watch/5d8dee9413b7f94e4ec25bf8

We finally published our extension in the Visual Studio Code marketplace. Until we were using a standalone version and sending around the file via email. We were mainly blocked by only supporting Mac, but last week we added support to Windows and decided to publish it. We tried to add support to Linux as well, but things got a little bit difficult and we decided to launch anyway without Linux.
There are a lot of advantages of being available in the marketplace:
- We can roll out updates automatically.
- It can be found using keywords in the marketplace.
- It gives more trust.

We have just released a new version with some cool improvements:
-
Improved recording status
When you start to record, the status bar will now change to red, so you can clearly see that you are recording. -
Easier access to GitDuck options
We now have a dedicated icon for GitDuck in VS Code making it very easy to configure it. -
Select video and mic input
In case you have multiple screens or different mics, you can now choose what you'd like to use with GitDuck.
You can see a quick demo of it here https://gitduck.com/watch/5d767a885e065d2fafa279f7

GitDuck allows developers to record a video of their screen linked to a commit. It's the easiest way to explain something about your code.
