GMGN App
app for sending GMs and GNs to your frens
It took a while to finally allocate time to work on the app and do something meaningful. So I was able to focus and fix couple of things:
- Fixed logout: now there is no need to kill up after Log Out button is pressed
- Onboarding flow now supports states
On a second thought, I'm going ship the release once I'll fix the onboarding is finished.
App now has an auth system, displays a feed, sends push notifcations. Google function work smoothly, rough todo list to letting in early adopters looks like this:
- Finishing profile setup
- Setting up username system
- Introducing limitation to 1 gm / 1 gn per day per user
- Setting up TestFlight and early adopters perimeter
- Updating the website

Worked a bit on cloud functions. I want to have a scalable backend, so I'm using Cloud Firestore. Now I want usernames to be pulled instead of user ids, so learning a bit about how cloud functions work and what are alternative ways of achieving what I want to get.

Since it was a long time ago when I last built something with Flutter, I had to update lots of code and to bump the versions of packages. Now there is some app which can be built for both, iOS and Android platforms.
I decided to go for Google Firebase as a backend to make sure I won't bother with the problem of scale and won't have to care about an uptime (at least I think this have a small chance of working out).

Since I had some experience working with Flutter, I plan to focus on reviewing materials and code I had written to remember how whole process of building apps looks like.
And now there is ChatGPT to help to deal with the necessary updates to the code base.

I reflected on my personal joy in exchanging gms and gns with friends. There was a quick spark of @gmtheapp in the CT space, which made sending gms and gns more convenient.
Since building such an app can be fit in into a hobby time and it looks like it can be done under some reasonable amount of time, I decided to build it.
