I’ve been lurking here for a while, admiring all the makers, and to be honest, I never thought I’d be posting my own product. Mainly because... well, I don't actually know how to code.
A few months ago, I hit a breaking point with 'SaaS fatigue.' I was paying for yet another $30/month subscription for a cloud-based video tool, and I just thought: 'My computer is sitting right here. It has a processor and a GPU. Why am I paying someone else to use their servers?'
So, I started a conversation with Gemini and Claude. I told them what I wanted: a Windows app that generates those trendy animated subtitles locally, with no monthly fees.
It wasn't easy. I spent months and months... going back and forth with the AI, hitting walls with PySide6 threading, and trying to figure out how to make FFmpeg memory pipes work so the timeline wouldn't lag. I also made sure it’s accessible for everyone—it’s optimized to run fast on your GPU, but it works perfectly fine on a standard CPU too.
Today, goVeliro Studio is live on the Microsoft Store. It’s fully offline, pay-once-own-forever, and handles everything from auto-transcription to batch processing.
I’m still a bit in shock that it actually works. I’d love to hear from you guys:
1. Do you think there’s still a market for 'old school' one-time purchase desktop software in this AI era?
2. For those who launched on the Windows Store—how do you get your first 100 users without spending a fortune on ads?

I think the strongest part isn't that it was built with AI—it's that you questioned whether the cloud was necessary in the first place.
For video tools, owning the workflow locally can be a much stronger differentiator than simply adding more AI.

I agree with you! I have been working in the world of professional television for 22+ years, so I know very well why offline video software is important. I love my job!
For example, subtitling a long video (like a 1-2 hour podcast video) can be very inconvenient with cloud providers, if at all possible.
What I wanted to achieve with goVeliro is to be able to create subtitles for our videos locally and very easily on our own machine.-
