Groovy Coloring Book

I just launched my first indie app on the Play Store. It's an adult coloring book, that I wrote from scratch, and curated the artwork.

I've been an Android developer for almost a decade, and programming longer than that. And before I became a programmer I went to art school. So painting, computer graphics and creative tools are important to me.

I was getting into coloring books as I was exploring "side hustles" and was not happy with the coloring book apps available in the Play Store. (There are some great ones on iOS) They seemed cookie cutter and corporate, over priced, and the type of artwork in them often felt generic and childish. So I decided to create my own.

Like many indie founders, I struggled with self doubt, and that was probably the hardest thing through it all. Most of the stories I read here are people launching something quickly with only a landing page, but in my case the market already existed and a week long project wasn't going to cut it. I researched apps and scoured user reviews, read books, and turned towards the indie gaming community for inspiration as well, since what I was building is closer to a game than a SAAS.

I tapped into my local network for beta testing and feedback, and I'm really happy with the feedback I've gotten so far.

There's still a long road ahead of working on promotion and marketing. I'm pretty decent at social media and that's definitely a channel I plan to leverage because it's so visual, as well as getting help with more traditional advertising channels.

Releasing this project has been a huge milestone for me. I'm so proud of how it turned out thus far, and I'm excited to see where it goes. Even if it doesn't work out, I still have a rad toy to entertain myself and my friends. But I've just gotten started!

My next tech step is to get a MacBook and learn iOS. 😭😁
