Guider
Find a guide to help you with online tasks
With public profiles complete, the next step was to be able to book a guider via their profile. There were a couple of challenges I had to overcome with this.
-
When booking a guide from a public profile, make sure we prompt users to sign up, then redirect them to complete the booking.
-
Create a simple UI for bookings, including a calendar for picking the date/time.
With both of these issues now resolved, I am now working on releasing the alpha version of bookings and sign up next. MVP here we come!
After completing the necessary back-end changes to support public profiles the next step was to implement all those queries on the ui. I was able to create the dynamic routes for profiles, get all the data and properly navigate users to the next step to booking a session. One step closer to MVP!

We are one step closer to bring public profiles available on GuiderHelp.com. We needed away to query our back-end for user data when a user is not authenticated. Hasura made it easy by allowing me to add a special public role that allows only certain queries and data to be accessible without a valid JWT token.
Hasura docs here: https://hasura.io/docs/1.0/graphql/manual/auth/authorization/common-roles-auth-examples.html
This week, we will be building out the UI for public profile and hopefully can make that available on production soon!

After trying out several Auth solutions, I've landed on using Auth0. Integrating that with my Hasura back end was easy but my biggest problem was actually deploying my app and getting it all to work. After some debugging, I was able to get it all working over the weekend and now I am moving on towards the next phase of my project -- building public user profiles for our guides.
I've been refining my landing page for a couple of weeks now and it's finally ready. I included a feedback button, email sign up form and key points about what Guider does and who it's for. Copy still needs some work but I hoping to get feedback from my networks on Twitter and Linked to see what works best.

Staying home during the pandemic made me realize I wanted to find a way to help people online and realized there wasn't a good place to do that.
