I've wanted to have a side hustle for years now. I've had plenty of ideas, which I try for about a month, then either ignore or convince myself they are never going to work without truly attempting product-market fit. The cycle has happened at least 4 times. This is a new attempt to fully push through with an idea I think is actually solving a problem, and figure out if people are willing to pay for it.
How I got the idea. Instead of thinking about 'startup ideas,' this time I actually started with looking for problems to solve. My cousins have struggled to build an exercise habit for a long time, and I figured I would try to help them. It was very simple, I would attempt to build their habit through the cue, action, reward loop from 'The Power of Habit' by Charles Duhigg. I would text them everyday at a specific time to remind them to work out, wait to hear back, and then reply with a 'reward;' a funny video, an inspirational quote or a fun article. When I didn't hear back for an hour or two, I would remind them, and encourage them to work out even just 10 minutes to keep this habit going. Turns out, that this actually worked, and both were able to stick to being active at least 15 minutes per day for 30 days. I figured I could help others, and HabitText.com was born. I created a website, and have a an MVP, something super simple that took me less than 2 weeks to create. But now, I am really struggling with marketing and putting myself out there, so here I am, exercising my building in public muscles. Wish me luck.
