HashtagCalendar
Daily and holiday hashtag suggestions for your IG posts
I noticed that the number of subscribers highly increased from one day to another. I use Google Alerts to find out if any of my products got mentioned somewhere, but I didn't receive any notification about this. So I took a deep dive into my Analytics and found out that Merca2.0 wrote an article about HashtagCalendar (https://www.merca20.com/sitio-del-dia-un-calendario-en-linea-para-hashtags-populares/)
Based on the number of followers they have on Twitter (506k) this looks like a site with lots of visitors.
This is how it affected the number of visitors to my site:
15th June: 3 visitors (the day before the article)
16th June: 232 visitors (the day, the article went live)
17th June: 502 visitors
18th June: 182 visitors
30 of these visitors (3%) also subscribed to a daily or weekly hashtag notification.
My learnings: I have to spend more time and energy to earn presences like this as they can really help to reach a broader audience. My hypothesis is that with a free product this is easier and I can use that to drive traffic to my "premium" tools (while there is some kind of connection between the audience of the free and the paid product).
As emojis are playing a big role in social media, suggested emojis became part of the HashtagCalendar next to suggested hashtags.

After spending almost a month rebuilding the HashtagCalendar from ground, I was ready.
It turned out that the development part wasn't the hardest. Collecting hashtags, add some description and additional hashtags to them was way harder and time consuming.
At the end I spent more time by creating the content than developing the basic functionalities of the calendar.

After spending almost 5 years at a manager position I decided to return to building tools and products by myself.
As the last 5 years passed by with management tasks my dev muscles got a bit rusty. I needed a small project that I can use to refresh my knowledge and try some new tech.
We didn't do anything with HashtagCalendar since the MVP so it looked a great idea to rebuild it from the ground as practice.

Well done for being brave and taking the leap. Do you have financial runway to keep you going/living for a while? Or what is your plan around that?

Thank you :)
I have savings enough for about a year. If non of my products would generate enough revenue by that time, I'll probably start to do some freelance work.

Congrats on the super brave thing. I am still dreaming about it.
Checked out your website and found it very interesting. Am sure you have done your homework on the need/want balance.
You could get a sponsor as your users will need to come to the website. Sponsorship will keep a steady income.
If need be, you could use a simple free widget I built usehighlight.com. Please note this ain't a promotion. Just my 2 cents.
Keep building. Stay blessed. All the very best.-

Great Step!
It was a saturday workday and instead of spending it with the regular daily tasks we thought that it would be great to use this extra workday to build something useful for the content team (at the social media agency I worked) to help their day to day job.
Content managers have to generate a great amount of creative content on a daily basis and sometimes it's really hard to them to find the inspiration to create these contents.
Our idea was to create a calendar for them that lists the national holidays so if they are out of ideas they can still use this information as a starting point.
The extra workday was enough to build a functional MVP and add some (about 10) holidays to it. After that we moved on with our day to day tasks and the MVP didn't evolve.

About
The main purpose of HashtagCalendar is to provide some inspiration for small businesses or individuals when they want to create some content on Instagram but have no idea what that should be about.

Congrats. Yes getting P.R. Is spectacular. I am creating CreatorGrowthLab.com check it out and also I’ve got a list of journalists covering Influencer Marketing, many will cover Social media, internet and stuff. Like Later and Buffer both company blogs also write about other tools online. You might be able to intro them to your hashtag notifications.
Every month I feature the twitter hashtag calendar in my newsletter: Influence Weekly.
Thanks, Andrew. Later and Buffer are on my lost for I don't remember how long now, but I always forgot to send the calendar to them. But I'll do it today! :)
