September 6, 2026 I built a mood tracker for my worst days — because on those days no one opens an app

Hi IH — solo founder here, sharing something personal.

I live with depression. Between doctor visits I couldn't remember how I actually felt — and when my therapist asked "how was this month?", I'd guess. Every mood tracker I tried failed me for the same reason: it assumed I had energy. Open the app, navigate menus, answer screens. On my worst days, that's not happening.

So I built HeartTrace around one constraint: logging must survive a day when doing anything feels impossible.

How it works:

• A scheduled notification arrives; you answer it right there — one tap on the mood button, no app to open (Android, Windows, macOS; on iOS tapping opens the app — Apple doesn't allow action buttons on web push yet, we say so upfront)

• Password-free sign-in (email code), history safe across devices

• A weekly trend view — built for exactly the "show my therapist" moment that motivated this It's a PWA — no app store, works in the browser you already have.

Honest status: MVP with logging + trends only. The roadmap is where it gets interesting — using your own data to flag rough patches early, before you notice them yourself. I'm not promising AI magic; I'm promising I'll build it slowly and honestly, as a patient building for patients. We launched on Product Hunt today (would appreciate an upvote there if you find this useful). Revenue: $0, pre-everything — I'm here for feedback more than applause. What would you want from a tool like this? What made you quit the last mood app you tried?

About

I live with depression and kept forgetting how I felt between doctor visits. I built HeartTrace so checking in on your mood takes one tap — right from a notification, even on low-energy days.
