Curated Books for Curious Parents

February 8, 2022 Figuring out what's next.

HeyParents started out as a side project, I simply didn't put enough thought or time behind it. But the reason why it ultimately exists is still something I believe in.

That reason? Parents should have an easy to consume resources to positively raise the next generation of kids. Like how is there no manual for parenting?

Happy, well-rounded kids who are: curious, courageous, confident, independent, resourceful, resilient, patient, competent and understanding.

So heyparents may be reincarnated as a linked resource in the future as part of a bigger idea.

As of now, I've turned off the services that have made this drastically unprofitable. Here's how HeyParents is built, I'd probably go another route if I were to build a resource tool like this:

  • Jetboost.io: It's about $29USD a month (I'm Canadian so that's like $50 bucks, not actually but still expensive). If you need the filtering functionality, FinSweet has a FREE alternative.
  • GeniusLink : Roughly $5USD a month
  • Webflow: $20USD a month for CMS for Heyparents.fyi

TBD. Stay tuned.

March 30, 2021 I made $5 bucks!

I made my first internet dollar. I was 36 in case you think it's too late. If you follow Jack Butcher, making your first $1 on the internet is the cornerstone to gaining the confidence to build your online business.

I haven't cashed it yet, mostly because my bank won't let me.

March 1, 2021 Quit my day job. Not sure what's next. Built this.

I'm a Product Manager by day, but can't code. You can say that I'm semi-technical.

As an ideas guy, it was frustrating to think of ideas and not able to build it. I took a 12-week Ruby on Rails program back in the day, it didn't do anything for me really. I just don't think in syntax.

I came across @bentossell and Makerpad, which I highly recommended for non or semi-technical folks who get blurry-eyed with code.

HeyParents is one of my first ideas. I built it in Webflow, using Jetboost.io as a way to filter the books.

About

When my wife and I were having our first child, we read a ton of books. Some were fear-mongering. Some were very inspirational and excited us as parents. This is the list of helpful and inspiring books.
