HIIT [wip]
Workout app for fighting dad-bod
I often prefer to do workouts in an "imbalanced" way. For example I like to do dumbbell shoulder presses on one-side at a time, and get the added oblique workout on the opposite side.
However, this makes for a nagging issue of having to watch the countdown timer to know when I should switch...
Enter, halfway cues. Now you'll get a cue halfway through a workout to let you know you're halfway through so you can either push through that last half, or know to switch sides :)
Apparently the method I used for playing audio cues is no bueno, so managed to rewrite it using a more robust method.
The result is pretty solid, the cues play more expediently, and they don't pause any previously playing audio, like my tunes.
Added bonus is the ability to toggle audio cues in the settings.

The wife requested the ability to rearrange your routine, so here we are...
You can now rearrange your workouts to tune in the perfect routine. Really nice addition for balancing your routine so you're not doing two high-intensity quad workouts back-to-back.
Great feedback.

I managed to carve out a few minutes for fixing the layout a bit. Now odd-numbered routines are laid out appropriately. While I was in there, I worked in support for landscape orientation.
The audio cues were working solid on Chrome, but are a bit funky on iOS... particularly automatically pausing my audio, which is unacceptable. Back to the audio cue drawing board.

I roughed in some quick audio cues for transitions between workouts. We'll see how that goes.
Also, while sucking wind doing burpees, I realized how much I longed for a visual cue for how much longer I had to feel this way... so I added a countdown for each workout.
We'll see how these changes add up in tomorrow's workout.

It’s hard to “lock in” the perfect routine, so now you can lock workouts you want to keep from being replaced on the next shuffle.
Tiny change, big improvement. I was able to generate the workout I was after much faster.
Realized during today’s workout how important audio cues are, next up...

I want to keep the interface as spartan as possible, but 5 rounds was killer if you generate an intense handful of workouts.
Thus, you can now configure the number of rounds, and the number of workouts in the routine.
Also added the ability to pause your routine, and a routine countdown.
The layout doesn't jive with an odd number of workouts though, so it gets visually ugly pretty quick, will wanna spruce that up asap.

Okay I'm liking this better. I added playback to the routine. You can now shuffle the perfect workout, and actually start the routine, and the app will walk you through your rounds.
Definitely nice, though I would've enjoyed today's workout more if I hadn't hardcoded 5 rounds... that was a hard workout.

I used the app to generate a workout last night for the first time, definitely digging it.
I am quickly realizing that it's lame that I had to use a different app to actually time the workout. I also found myself forgetting the order of the workouts so had to switch back and forth between apps.
That just won't do.

Cranked out a few little improvements, added some of my favorite workouts and improved the visuals a bit so you can shuffle without reloading. Also worked up a quick deploy script and DNS so I could give this thing a go.
It's ugly but it works, https://hiit.brwr.co

With a 1yr old boy, hour-long trips to the gym are no longer feasible, and dad-bod is setting in fast. The app was built to be able to quickly squeeze in a workout, in the tightest of time frames.
