Awesome. Your Indie Hackers podcast truly inspired me to build a community for my service.

August 1, 2019 HireClub hit $200,000 in total revenue!

$124,000 was this year alone. Since we incorporated in June 2017 we have been trying to find Product Market Fit. Early numbers are really great, we are accelerating growth by doing more events, moving more of our community on to our own site and still having a great Facebook group.

I really love the idea but once the candidate gets a job then they have to churn, yeah? Your churn % must be incredibly high...

    1. 1

Nope, once a user hits goals, we focus on the next ones. While churn can always improve in any startup, we have reduced 50% in the last few months.

    Congratulations!

I am curious to know, what kind of industry professionals request for coaches? Do you have software developers as subscribers?

    1. 1

Yes we do! It's actually really broad, everything from founders, moms returning to work, developers, designers, PMs.

      1. 2

I have been trying to find new horizons in my career, I'm a Senior Frontend developer and I want to move to the EU or US. Can I benefit from a coach in HireClub?

        1. 1

Yes you can! You can do a free intro to start https://hireclub.com/intro

What does your internal chat tool look like? Are the mentors and mentee using Slack to communicate or you built your own chat system?

    1. 1

We built our own chat system.

Thank you for your response. Out of the $20k MRR, how much is from jobs posting?

        1. 1

From companies paying to post jobs? Barely any.

          1. 1

Wow! So everything came from coaching. I thought job seekers don't have money to pay for coaching. Do you have customers that are not unemployed?

            1. 1

Coaching isn't just for job seekers. It's for people seeking to get ahead in their careers. We have had unemployed customers and we have found them meaningful work.

Congratulations. Great service, nice website. Always happy to see that success is achievable. Good luck in growing even more.

    1. 2

Thank you! We are working on improving it.

  8. 2

Congratulations! Did you run any ads?

    1. 1

We tried google ads and honestly they didn't do so great for us. We spent about $2k in April and didn't see much results. That could be as the result of poor tracking as well. But our group/email/community does so much better for growth.

Congrats brother. Just curious, I love your site design but how did you get such a cool domain?

Built with ROR, did you code the site yourself? More practical then going with typical Wordpress?

Great job brother, keep it up!

    1. 2

We owned the .co for years and purchased the .com a few years ago. Yes it's Rails I've designed/coded the majority of the site. I cannot imagine the hell that is Wordpress for building an actual product but hey if it works, it works.

  10. 1

Congrats !! what I find so inspiring and awesome is that you dropped 3k on the domain name! which means you had full conviction and faith that you can make it happen before the idea was even born, and then you actually made it happen!
hats off and onward to exponential growth :)

    1. 1

The name was around long before the product. It was just a side project and I never spent money on it. Once we found revenue, then I invested.

  11. 1

Big milestone, right on man! Love the website design, super clean. Also your domain name is 🔥 how'd you manage to grab such a good .com?

    1. 1

Thanks, I think the design needs a lot of work lol. We paid $3k for the domain name a few years ago. Original price was $6k.

      1. 2

typical founder, never satisfied haha i know the feeling, going through a site design rn and just want everything to be pixel perfect. That's actually a steal for the name!

        1. 2

we iterate constantly vs trying to be pixel perfect. Probably why I'm never happy enough. But I do appreciate your kind words.

May 16, 2019 Crossed 100 paying subscribers!

    Onwards and upwards Ketan :)

  3. 1

    Yep, well done!

  4. 1

    nice!
    any insights?
what are the types of customers? are they matching up to the same type of cohort as your initial customers?
    where did you find them?
any changes in the cost of conversion for these subscribers?

good work! so happy for you :)

    1. 1

It's more about closing holes at the bottom vs new funnel at top. Churn was more important to fix then trying to get new customers.
