HoldSpeak - Type 3x faster with AI powered voice-to-text

Hi Indie Hackers!

I am excited to introduce HoldSpeak: a macOS app that allows you to type 3x faster with your own voice, using AI powered voice-to-text.

After you install it on your computer, you setup a hotkey. In every application, just press the hotkey, start talking and the text appears at the cursor as soon as you release the hotkey.

It works everywhere you can type text, no need to switch app.

It supports over 100 languages and works 100% offline.

Here's some key features of HoldSpeak:

  • Lightweight: HoldSpeak takes only about 50MB of memory. Natively integrated with your favorite apps
  • Fast as light: Text appears at the cursor as soon as you release the hotkey
  • Privacy first: The audio and the transcription always stays on your device
  • Works offline: The transcription happens on your device. No Internet access needed
-100+ languages supported: Choose from 100+ languages or let HoldSpeak auto-detect language
  • Built for macOS: Built and designed to be fast, reliable and easy to use

Thank you for checking out HoldSpeak, and hope you enjoy the app!

Nice positioning. What stands out to me in this category is that the real retention driver is often not just transcription accuracy, but whether the workflow is fast enough to use in the middle of real work.

The sticky habit for me has been hold-to-talk capture for docs, quick notes, backlog grooming, email drafts, and short writing bursts in whatever app is already open. That "capture while the thought is live" behavior feels different from passive recording or post-hoc transcription.

Disclosure: I’m helping with Wispr Flow outreach, so I’m affiliated on that side. If anyone here wants to compare the active-capture workflow, this is the tracked referral link I’m using: https://wisprflow.ai/r?ANTON578&utm_source=indiehackers&utm_medium=comment&utm_campaign=wispr_referral&utm_content=holdspeak_active_capture

Curious where people actually stick with this most: writing, coding, admin work, or quick note capture between tasks?
