December 2022 How I came up with the idea

It was almost Christmas, the first one after the Covid-19 pandemic started, and we were all working remotely at my company. As one of the initiatives to bring together the team, we decided to do a Secret Santa.

I was allocated a teammate and started to look for something to give him. However, he was living in a different city (different continent actually) and I wanted to buy something preferably local and with a positive impact. I tried looking everywhere online but the results were minimal, and limited to a few organic shops. Onions were not what I had in mind, to be honest.

In the end, I managed to find a local shop selling clothes from recycled plastic thanks to a friend but the challenge left me thinking: how is it possible that there is no centralised way where to find products according to your ethical values? And this is how it all started.

I felt I was missing some tools and community knowledge to be able to act more ethically as a consumer. Those tools and communities were not there so I decided to start this project.
