November 26, 2024 Claude 3.5 Sonnet vs OpenAI 4o

After extensively testing both APIs for back office development, we found Claude's approach to tool calling more intuitive and reliable than OpenAI's.

While OpenAI excels at general language tasks, Claude demonstrated superior understanding of database schemas, API structures, and complex business logic flows.

Its ability to generate accurate SQL queries and interpret multiple data sources simultaneously made it particularly effective for back office automation.

The key differentiator was Claude's consistent ability to maintain context across multiple tool calls, resulting in more cohesive and maintainable back office solutions.

November 23, 2024 Successful Onboarding Case Study: Hops' Journey to Improvement

The onboarding page is a customer's first impression of a service. Even the best product can be undervalued if it fails to capture interest here. Here's how Hops improved its onboarding process.

Previously, Hops' onboarding relied on:

  • Collecting information via Typeform

  • Product demonstrations through meetings

Key issues from the customer perspective:

  • Lack of content: Only greetings, no feature explanations

  • Typeform dependency: Inconvenient external data entry

  • Limited functionality: Sample pages shown but insufficient product overview

This resulted in high drop-off rates and poor understanding of the product's potential.

Two improvement priorities were established:

  • Seamless in-product customer data collection

  • Leading with engaging content that resonates with customers

The text maintains its professional tone while focusing on the key improvements and challenges faced during Hops' onboarding enhancement journey. Would you like me to elaborate on any particular aspect?

October 26, 2024 Why did we focus on AI?

Traditional low-code solutions for building back offices still require significant time investment and training costs that ultimately impact customers. However, AI has reached a level of sophistication where it can effectively understand and implement complex back office logic on its own.

For our customers, the experience of creating a back office with AI feels almost magical - they describe their needs in natural language, and AI translates that into functional workflows and interfaces.

The technology has evolved to comprehend business logic, database relationships, and API integrations intuitively. This dramatic shift in back office development is transforming how companies manage their internal operations while saving precious development resources.

October 9, 2024 Selecting the Right Metrics for Product Growth

Products need different metrics based on their unique goals and success definitions. Similarly, team members across the organization require different metrics aligned with their roles and responsibilities.

Product Growth Metrics:

  • Social media/messaging apps (Instagram, Discord): Focus on Monthly Active Users (MAU) and retention rates

  • Subscription/SaaS products (Netflix, Cafe24): Prioritize Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) and Average Revenue Per User (ARPU)

Role-Based Metrics:

  • Executive Leadership: Revenue growth rate, gross profit margin, overall business health indicators

  • Product Development: User behavior metrics like MAU, session duration, engagement rates

The key is identifying which metrics most closely correlate with your product's success model and team members' objectives. Effective metric tracking starts with understanding your product's growth drivers and team roles.

For scalable growth, focus on metrics that directly connect to your product's core value proposition and business model. This ensures everyone in the organization is aligned with the right indicators for their specific responsibilities.

October 1, 2024 Why Hops?

Hops was created from firsthand experience with internal tool development challenges.

As programmers myself, i witnessed how building and maintaining back-office tools consumed valuable development resources that could be better spent on core product features. While builder platforms existed, they often fell short of meeting programmers' needs for flexibility and control.

We created Hops as a programmer-first solution, combining the efficiency of low-code development with the power of native database integration, JavaScript functionality, and REST API support.

Our goal was simple: help programmers build internal tools faster while maintaining the technical depth they need.
