March 27, 2023 Turning Twitter threads into an info product

Last month I had just about 100 Twitter followers. I wanted to practise writing and I decided and Twitter seemed to be the least effort I could put in (boy was I wrong).

After seeing a pretty cool series of threads by @surjithctly where he wrote 30 TailwindCSS tips in 30 days, I thought of doing the same with Hotwire, a technology that I've been using every day for the past 1.5y.

I figured I would be talking to a wall. With 100 followers I had absolutely no hope that people would actually see my threads.

I got proven wrong relatively quickly. The first thread reached thousands of impressions in the first few hours. So did the second. Then people started interacting with my content. Leaving comments, opening PRs on the GH repo, DMming me. I was blown away.

I managed to stay consistent and released one thread a day for 30 days straight. It was tough but I got it done.

In these 30 days people kept telling me that they would happily pay for that type of content. Marc Köhlbrugge also suggested to release a Stripe payment link and see what happens.

This is exactly what I did. I asked people what they would have liked to see in this hypothetical product. Then I released a LemonSqueezy link with the promise that if 10+ people would preorder the product then I would start working on it.

To my surprise I hit the 10 preorders within a couple of hours. Now I'm actively working on the Hotwire Cookbook. I still want to build it in public. I'm giving access to each article as I release it instead of letting customers wait until I'm all done.

I want to get feedback and make this info product as good as it can possibly be.

Wow! This is so inspiring, I created a Twitter account for SEO threads but never posted. Inspired by you, I am gonna start now : )

Looking forward to seeing Hotwire Cookbook on launch!

Awesome progress, thanks for sharing! I'd suggest considering starting a newsletter to help folks engage with your content as well. You can re-use a lot of the content you already / are producing and build out a separate funnel through this channel that ties in with your overall goal.

Plus, it's a little more intimate to stay in touch with your audience that you can then even turn into a product (premium posts / subscriptions / sponsorships, etc) in future.

Tie that in with some tools like FeedHive, schedule it away and you can even put it on autopilot!

Congrats on all of it! :)

      Thank you so much! 🙏

I do like the idea of a newsletter. I've sort of delayed it so far because it seems like a big commitment. I do see how it would tie things together nicely though.

Having done this Twitter -> Info Product showed me the power of recycling content. There's no reason not to continue.

I sort of started sending emails to people who preordered. I also have a bunch of emails of people who just subscribed on LemonSqueezy without placing an order. I could probably tap into that as well

That's awesome! Could definitely tap into the emails you have now for sure (would need to ensure subscribers are aware / opt them in ofc). As you progress, that email list will be super valuable for things like product updates / research / engagement in general so definitely a great step for future gains! Excited to see this develop :)

About

After a mildly successful series of Twitter threads people asked me to turn that content into something more actionable. And this is how Hotwire Cookbook was born.
