How Old Do I Look

A few days ago, I had one of those very random product ideas that somehow refused to leave my head.

I was looking at a photo of myself and caught myself thinking, “Wait… how old do I actually look in this picture?” Not my real age, obviously. I know that part. I mean the age people might guess from a quick first impression.

And then I realized this is such a common little curiosity. People ask it before changing profile pictures, before posting a new photo, after getting a haircut, or just when they find an old selfie and wonder if they looked younger or older back then.

So I decided to build a simple tool around that idea.

The result is HowOldDoILook, a small AI photo analysis website where you upload one portrait and get a quick visual impression result. It estimates how old you look in the photo, and also gives a few extra first-impression signals like attractiveness percentile, trustworthiness, approachability, facial symmetry, and golden ratio face impressions.

I wanted the product to feel light and fun, not like a harsh scoring machine. So the design direction was pretty simple:

upload one photo

show the result quickly

keep the interface clean

make the feedback feel friendly and human

avoid turning it into a complicated dashboard

The main result card focuses on the photo, the estimated age, and a short written impression. The scores are shown as percentiles rather than brutal “x out of 10” numbers, because that feels a little less awkward and a bit more natural.

I also spent some time tuning the tone of the AI response. I didn’t want it to sound like a cold face-analysis report. The goal is for the summary to feel more like a polished compliment or a first impression someone might genuinely give you.

To be clear, this is not meant to be scientific or serious. Lighting, camera angle, expression, hairstyle, and even photo quality can all change the result. I see it more as a fun AI mirror — something you try out of curiosity, not something you use to judge yourself.

I’m still improving the product, especially the way results are presented and how the AI explains facial features. I’d love feedback from people who try it.
