How We Grow
A look under the hood of the dynamics that drive growth
Over the last few years I have worked in various roles touching Product, Marketing and Data helping high growth startups scale. One thing that never stopped to fascinate me is that no matter how different products are, they are still governed by the same dynamics.
My idea for the blog is to take a company in each issue and dissect the forces that drive it’s growth. We won’t be going into tactics, but rather try to understand the why behind the things that work. By breaking down the growth models with you, I hope we can get a more holistic understanding of the products we use and the work that we do.
Topics we will cover:
- How do companies get their customers?
- How do companies retain and engage their customers?
- How do these different dynamics influence each other?
- How do the dynamics change depending on the product and their commercial model

Cool! Sounds very interesting, I just signed up.
What are growth models?
Hey Samuelbeek,
Thanks for subscribing so fast - and good question! Growth models are tools to help us represent the ways products grow. What you will see is that there are certain dynamics that can be analyzed and optimized. We use models to help understand these dynamics and create a common language.
Is there anything in particular you are looking to get out of this blog?
Thanks for explaining. I think the most interesting for me as a product person is to see how others products are approaching growth and under what circumstances I should apply/copy their growth strategies.
Yes very interesting. Something that you often see is blogs going into tactics, but if you for example think about the forces that drive TikTok (highly viral consumer product) they are totally different from Salesforce (enterprise, sales driven). Could definitely be interesting to see why certain tactics work for one and not for the other.
