huue

Funnily enough, huue didn't start out as huue. It was quite a different product to begin with.

At the time, I was paying particularly close attention to how there was a trend of moving from digital to analogue. Going from Spotify to vinyl, iPhone to Polaroid.

I randomly came up with the idea of doing something similar, but for photobooks! I researched and saw that photobooks were a huge business, especially as gifts between family and friends and as ways to remember special moments.

I figured we could do something different. How about we made the photobook for people automatically? Even better, we connect it to their Instagram accounts and we can get all of their posts, tagged posts, nice comments that people have said about them, and create a photobook out of these assets!

So naturally, I checked out the competition and they were all pretty much the same - drag and drop pictures on their website and get a photobook sent to your door. Nothing like the idea I had envisioned.

I also noticed that there was very little customizability, and given that my target audience would be younger social media savvy users, I figured this would be important.

Therefore, I began building a fully functional mobile app editor. Over time however, I realized that if I was already spending so much time developing this powerful editor, why couldn't that be the product itself? After all, there are very few good solutions out there for this sort of thing.

Near that time, my mother was trying to use a competitor's graphic design app to market her small business and she expressed a number of pain points to me, specifically that it was really complicated to use!

And that's how huue was born.
