I was looking for a blogging platform but couldn’t find it: One that would let me write posts in markdown with my own editor, one that didn’t look awful buy modern design standards, and one that felt snappy on mobile.

Introducing Dark Mode

The PRO version of Hydejack now includes an optional Dark Mode, making it the first Jekyll theme to include this feature (to my knowledge).

Offline support on hydejack.com

Hydejack 8 ships with experimental offline support, which allows readers to navigate the site while offline (implemented via Service Workers).

This feature is now enabled on hydejack.com for demo purposes (and faster repeat visits).

Release v7

After the first release I went into hibernation and started building all kinds of insane features nobody was asking for. By some miracle I've avoided this classic pitfall in the first release, only to make up for it now. It finally released in October.

"Best theme by a Mile"

I get a random email that just reads "Best Theme by a Mile".

I've received praise before (usually followed by a question), but this was by far my favourite.

First sale

To my absolute astonishment, two people actually bought the thing on the first day.

Decision

I've built a number of products over the years, but my fork of the Hyde Jekyll theme was the only one that people were actually using. So I thought: Why not build a premium version and try selling this?

I knew that this was never going to be a $$$ business, but I thought: Since I'm essentially clueless about business, I should start by running a lemon stand.
