We reached $5,000 MRR ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ

Wow! We weren't expecting to grow so rapidly after Corona hit. We actually saw our churn rate go up a bit. Our user growth really increased a lot more though ๐Ÿ˜ We were at $1,000 MRR in January.

We initially planned to hit 10k MRR at the end of the year but we've revised our plans. Our new goal is 20k MRR EOY!

We're an open company and you can find our numbers on Baremetrics: hypefury.baremetrics.com

How did we get here?

  1. Our audience has been an important part of our growth.

We've been dedicated to help them as much as we can in any way possible. If they contact us through Intercom we respond fast and go above and beyond in helping them.

We've had so many nice comments in our Intercom logs, on Twitter and via e-mail telling us they love our support.

We're building a brand and we're just starting. Building a brand is like building a huge castle. All the bricks are important but the ones at the bottom (at the beginning) carry the most weight. If they show cracks early on, who knows when they give in and the whole building collapses.

It's really important to keep your users happy. To listen to them and to act on their feedback.

We had one person who wanted a refund and we didn't blink our eyes and just gave that person the money back. We asked why only after he received his money back.

Those bricks (people who want to leave) are also part of your community, wether you like them leaving or not. Them not paying you doesn't mean they don't give you any value. So don't only look at the people who're paying you.

  1. Be an open communicator.

We've actually been a victim of our own success. Hypefury.com is a scheduling tool for Twitter. Twitter offers a free API but with limits. We started hitting those limits in the past few weeks because of our growth. We immediately reached out to Twitter as we were reaching the limits. Unfortunately due to Corona they had a massive backlog in requests and weren't able to get back to us before our users started experiencing problems.

We sent an email to all our users even though only a few people were impacted. We want our users to trust us in good times and bad. We sometimes have issues but as long as everyone knows what's up, they can live with it and support us.

If you try to hide things from your audience it will backfire.

We also let them know the second Twitter got back to us with good news. We can know facilitate all their tweets and as many as we like!

  1. Build what your fans want.

We have a group of people that are part of our inner circle. They're very active on Twitter and as such know exactly what they're missing. We poll them to see what new things we've planned strike a chord and what doesn't.

We're in a tiny niche right now and we're doing everything we can to make those people happy. We made an integration with Gumroad and are launching an automated sales feature very very soon. A lot of people will love this. They can make money while they sleep. Literally.

We're going to integrate with a lot more platforms and make our tool even more useful to more people.

Congratulations! I totally get you. We hit that milestone a few months back, and it was a really good feeling to know you have enough spare cash coming in over and on top of just 'paying the bills'. Very cool and motivating feeling. Wishing you all success!

    1. 3

      Thanks Devan! Feeling hyped :)

Yeah we're spending everything again on more developers, customer support, etc. :)

We should hopefully also get a paycheck in the near future!! ;-)

        Salut Yannick,
I saw this on Jens' blog just yesterday, didn't know the story behind it.
So cool to read about it here!
What's the story behind the name "Hypefury"?

        Kind regards,
        Nadia

        1. 1

          Thanks Nadia!

@samy_ can tell you everything about the name :)

  2. 4

Awesome! Really good to see that you can build good business in a niche. Are you planning on expanding your solution to other socials, or keeping focused on twitter?

Sidenote: compliments on the design language. I like it a lot ๐Ÿ‘Œ

    1. 3

Thanks for the compliments Doc! :)

Yes so right now we have a small feature to make your life easier on Instagram. We create an "Insta-shot" for you. Basically your tweet as an image you can directly post on Instagram.

We have plans for other socials too. But we're not done with Twitter yet :) Our audience (right now) is mostly there and we have good traction.

      1. 1

Awesome! Was this always the plan? Or are you acting based on user feedback / opportunities you see?

I'm curious as I'm working on my own niche seo product, but have a larger vision. With your story i see It's taking small steps that pay off. Controlled growth :)

We mostly building using user feedback. The IG feature was the idea of one of our users.
Sometimes we experiment with new things but only if we believe it can convert potential users or make current users upgrade to a higher plan.

    2. 2

Thanks Doc, will tell our designer. :)

We already started expanding to Instagram by generating a "tweetshot" of the tweet and offering users to publish it on IG. Next step would be to add Facebook cross posting.
I am not planning to have 100% separate IG or FB publishing. User aren't requesting them and there are so many things we can do already that would provide more value.

Big congrats on this! And everything you said is true... building a brand, focusing on the customer... that will carry you through things like sudden API changes, downtime, or big industry shifts.

Itโ€™s not easy to thrive in this space with so much competition. I know because SMM is my world. And Iโ€™ve used and or worn about countless social media management apps.

People reach out to me on what seems like a weekly basis pitching me their new social scheduling/management app. Your product has definitely gotten my attention.

I think there may be some opportunity for us to collaborate.

    1. 2

Thanks for the kind words Dustin! Means a lot!

Yeah it's a tough space. We don't look much at the competition. We know they're there but we focus on our users and their wants to create a better product every day.

I just followed you (here and on Twitter). Let's have a chat about a possible collaboration! Sounds interesting! My DM's are open.

  4. 3

Congratulations! Awesome milestone, even better when it comes sooner than expected :)

    1. 2

      Thanks Jen! Much appreciated :)

How are you doing with Lunchbag? :) Made more headlines? ;-)

  5. 3

    Nice milestone! :)

    1. 2

      Thanks Josef ๐Ÿ™!

  6. 2

I think you guys have quite a bit of potential to become the next hot SMM tool :)

Not sure if you already have this on your roadmap, but it would be cool to browse popular tweets of other people in your industry, not just my own ones. I.e. automate what Bryan has tweeted about - https://twitter.com/Harris_Bryan/status/1120066241618685953

And you definitely need to create your version of https://sparktoro.com/tools/sparkscore

    1. 1

Thanks Tim! :) Means a lot coming from you! I โค๏ธAHREFS! :P If we can reach anywhere near your MRR we would be very very happy.

We have plans to do something like Bryan does yes. So much to do, so little devs ;-)

The Sparkscore is a really good idea! Didn't see that yet. Interesting way to capture leads :)

  7. 2

Wow, congrats! Looks like a great product. I might need to sign up :)

    1. 2

Thanks Kisten! You should definitely try it :) Free trial! ;-)

  8. 2

    Awesome! Good work.

  9. 2

Great insights Yannick. How do you reach new set of users? What's your most active lead generation source?

    1. 2

      Thanks Neeraga!

We have 2 main sources of lead gen. One is our affiliate program. Lots and lots of people have already subscribed to it.

The other one is a free download on our Twitter profile: https://twitter.com/hypefury of a course to grow you Twitter followers. It's been downloaded over 1,000 times.

People who download the course will receive a sequence of emails to convert them to become a subscriber.

    In your Stripe-Verified Revenue https://www.indiehackers.com/product/hypefury/revenue it's marked 8800$+

Did the MVP took you 1 year ? (From august 2018 you had the idea, august 2019 you finished the MVP)

Also should say the Jimmy fallon joke on your story page is a genius move x')

    1. 2

      Hahaha :) Thanks :)

Yeah so I donโ€™t know what the indiehackers revenue is exactly. As far as I can tell thatโ€™s not accurate?

@samy_ started building Hypefury Aug 2019 if I can remember correctly. Took him a few weeks to finish the MVP.

    2. 1

Hey Saad. It took me few days to have a working MVP: https://twitter.com/SamyDindane/status/1160696449996414976

I stayed in private beta for around 4 months.

The Stripe Verified Revenue is literally that: revenue. So you could have a month with a lot of yearly payments (= lot of cash), which increase that month's revenue, but only with a small impact of your MRR.

Our metrics are publicly available here: hypefury.baremetrics.com.

    1. 1

      Thanks Doninque!

  11. 1

Are there any other features besides post scheduling? Would be great to see analytics, benchmarks etc.

    1. 2

Yes, so right now we show insights. What tweets get most likes and RT's. Not real analytics / benchmarks yet because we need access to the Enterprise Twitter API.
