Just as GDPR is coming live, so are we! With an MVP form, semi-automated backend, we're ready to process submissions.
Some lessons learned, 1st we did what everyone does, and went straight for full automation too early. We should've spent the $40 on the typeform and half automated while spending the real effort on other parts of the business.
The first thing we wanted to automate was getting email addresses, there could be thousands. So we were building a Scrapy / Beautiful Soup spider to find the contact info, but the entire time we didn't have a business that needed it!
Now, with only hours left (at least that's how it feels), we're skipping the monotomous spider work and focusing more directly on getting high-traffic companies (i.s., HSBC, AXA, etc.) and capturing the "others" for semi automated backend.
Wish us luck as we push through for the next 48 hours to get this done!
Yesterday I bought and loaded the domain name IDRespect.com and put the site online. We're usually a free wordpress template, which I really dislike. Listening to the Ghost IH podcast makes it obvious WP is bloated.
Anyways, now we're at an interesting point. We're building our mailing list for a May 25th launch in the EU (to coincide with GDPR). We're also building the functionality.
I'm wondering - should we be open source / privacy foundation that survives on donations? Or a for profit that charges a minimal fee per request?

Companies purposefully make it difficult for you to submit GDPR requests. So we've created an automated submission tool to help you do it in bulk.
