Great, and the endorsment too ;-) Not convinced with the "pay to view", too early I think but who dares win?!

    1. 1

      Thanks my man

  2. 2

This is great! Love the social validation on landing. That really should help with sign ups!
I do not like that I need to put in a card to just try it, even though I understand the reasoning. So I bounced. Is there a video so I can see what it looks like does without committing to pay?

Have you considered adding more plans? What sort of features do you think are the kind people would pay more for? Also how is this more beneficial for validating ideas since it has a smaller user base ("quality over quantity") than say Reddit or Twitter?

btw I'm not criticizing it and am genuinely curious, I think your revenue shows that there really is a need for this

    1. 2

      Hey Syed, great questions.

What sort of features do you think are the kind people would pay more for?
IdeasDrop members are people with a passion for future trends, innovations and all come from a diverse background which leads to a higher quality of feedback than you would get on Reddit or Twitter. To me all those social networks are full of noise, negativity and trolling. IdeasDrop is a noise free environment.

  2. 2

Amazing, well done! How did you convert them?
Im thinking about offering a free trial period myself but I'm a bit worried that users would just download free videos and then not come back.

    1. 1

I think while on 3 days free trial they can see the value from my community so it's an easy sell.

I wouldn't offer a free trial for digital products because you're right they will just download and not come back. Maybe offer one free download if they share a tweet or an instagram post. Might help with reach. I think your product is great you just need more traffic .

      1. 2

That's a really great idea. Thank you so much!
And happy you like the product, means a lot. We're indexing the entire platform as we speak so hopefully we'll get some more organic traffic from now on.

        1. 1

Best of luck with the indexing, hope it works out for you.

🤔Thoughts
An IH member was complaining about my previous post complaining that it wasn't a milestone. A milestone doesn't have to be hitting $5K MRR, it can be getting one new sign up, making $5 or even just getting some good feedback. I'm going to continue sharing my small wins so you can see that a successful product doesn't happen overnight, it happens over time.

Now let us get back to business.

It's your milestone, so it can be whatever you consider. Congrats on the milestone! ;)

    1. 1

Exactly what I was going to write. Its your product and your milestones. Keep up the good work

  2. 5

Totally okay to post milestones of any size whatsoever, and I also think your milestones are pretty great!

However, I'm going to rename your milestone (from "I needed to say this") to be consistent with the naming prompt of "What did you accomplish." This is something I care about for two reasons:

    1. When people first show up to IH and look at the "milestones" section at the top, I want them to understand what's going on, and it's confusing if the milestone titles don't seem like milestones titles.
    2. The subject line of the daily milestones email is simply the title of the day's top milestone, so again, it's a bit confusing if it's just titled like an normal post instead of a milestone.
    1. 2

Agree with this move - I think HackerNews does a similar thing with titles that are worded strangely or clickbait-y. Someone made this a while back: https://hackernewstitles.netlify.com/

I saw the original downvoted comment and hope that person was only criticizing the title too because I think the content of these milestones is great!

    2. 1

Totally understand and really appreciate your transparency @csallen

  3. 3

That particular individual doesn't have any products listed on their page, so perhaps they're unsure what milestones can be.

    1. 1

That could be the reason :)

  4. 2

Congrats! We've been there/are in the midst still + know just how important a few £/$s can make to the momentum of the business. Keep going!

    Keep posting them!

    1. 1

      Thanks Marty

  7. 2

I totally agree! As a founder of a really early stage startup I personally even find the "smaller" milestones here on IH as more inspiring - naturally since it's closer to where I am with my business. Thanks for sharing and inspiring!

🤔 Reflection:
I did not expect for my first IdeasDrop post on IH to receive so much engagement and positive feedback. Thank you all it means a lot. I think the majority of us suffer from fear, uncertainty and doubt. ‬ As a solo founder and someone who relies on his side projects to pay the bills it always means a lot when people are nice.

That's a same fear even I have in me. I am full time solo founder.

To mitigate this fear, I finally asked myself

how much minimum monthly income do my family need without sacrificing our standard of leaving ?

    I came up with a number X.

Next , I thought how can I earn amount X that doesn't take a hit because of competition ?

Then an idea triggered in me. Find a industry / niche which has been offline even today. Which really can't be made automated.

    Then I found one.

I ideally found one that has lot of entry barriers. My uncle is in same industry for many years.

So I am trying to introduce small utility software for this industry.

Income from this will be consistent because people in this industry are not tech savvy. They stick with a particular software forever..

This may make me fearless since my required income for my happy life is covered.

I can take a fearless decisions...

    1. 2

This is exactly how I made the leap from full-time job to full-time maker.

  2. 3

Funny you post this, I was reflecting on almost the exact same thought today:

    https://www.kevinconti.com/fear-and-uncertainty/

    1. 3

Great post, I feel the same.

I know that I have the kowledge, skills and ideas to create some of the most amazing products out there, I just have to win the fight with myself. Currently this fight seems to be a lot harder than I thought and I know I will win it, only that it takes a lot longer than I expected.

Most of the time you are not fighting your competitors, the market, the customers or the time, you are just fighting with yourself.

    2. 1

This is a great post Kev.

"Create marketing posts for Medium" does Medium work? I did a post and haven't seen anything from it. Do you have to be a paid member for it to gain traction?

    1. 1

It's like anything you need to spend time building up your following and you can gain traction. Try post every second day for a month while also engaging with members who are your target audience.

      1. 2

That's a challenge for me at the moment. I already have so much on my plate. I know I've got to write on my subject matter. I will however post it into IH. It's mainly an article I wrote about rebranding. Some might find it helpful 🤔

        1. 1

All you need to do is create one piece of content and then simply copy/ paste across medium, IH, Reddit. You can then break it down into a thread for twitter and then more for Instagram, Facebook etc.

          1. 1

Yep. That's correct. I'm trying to keep my presence up on IH. And I've also just joined the WeWork Labs Global Mentor Network and they want me to write content for that platform as well. I need to start cloning or outsourcing I think.

  4. 2

Congrats on taking the step and launching and getting paid users! Appreciate the reflection

I'm on zero sleep and initially thought your thread was titled "Hit my mother" but this is much better news! That would've been an odd thing to brag about on IH. Congrats, David!

    1. 1

hahah that made me laugh, thanks Tom.

  2. 2

    Awesome David!

It’s drastically important to keep your early customers engaged.

What’s your plan to take it further?

    1. 1

I'm looking for ways to add more value right now, daily challenges seem to be effective for that. I'm also looking at ways to increase members and I've created an ambassador program.

      1. 1

That's sounds good. How does the ambassador program works? @daviddel

  3. 2

Looks cool. I almost signed up but left because a credit card was required. I'd be happy to pay the $5 per month if I could get in and feel it out. I tend to leave sites that require cards because I always forget.

    1. 1

You get a 3-day free trial which you can cancel at any time, the platform that I'm using (MightyNetworks) doesn't allow me for people to sign up without a credit card.

      1. 2

If that's not possible, maybe think about adding a product demo on the landing page in addition to your features list. If the product is good enough it will increase conversion 🙌

        1. 1

This is on the roadmap :)

  4. 2

I see you are using Mighty Networks. I was considering using it for a project, would love to hear your feedback on it and how does it compare to other platforms!

    1. 1

I'm starting to realise the massive potential - build a community & sell courses under one roof. I've used Teachable for a few years and I'm going to migrate it all to Mighty Networks over the coming weeks.
