May 26, 2026 Idiomm to the rescue... of YouTuber users

When scrolling down the video page to read the comments (even the ones with the timestamps) did you wish that the you could read the comments WHILE the video was playing? Yes? No? I did!

I thought it would be a wonderful way to be entertained, as well as, get a tool for serious work like note-taking while watching a study video or as a research annotation.

And that's how Idiomm was born. An idiom "is a phrase whose phrase or expression whose meaning cannot be understood from the literal definitions of individual words". Perfect description for social media comments. So, the name Idiomm.

Idiomms are notes / comments which users pin to the video at specific points in the timeline while the video is playing.

Here are a few features of the SaaS app:

  1. Users can import YouTube videos into their public or private collections / boards (accessible after signing up / signing in) by pasting the YT link of the video. Or they can "flick" existing videos on Idiomm to their own collections / boards.

  2. Users can pin notes at specific points in the video by pausing the video at that point.

  3. Comments pinned on a video in one's own private collection remain private to you. Comments pinned in a public collection (even yours) video are displayed to the community.

  4. Users see each other's comment / idiomms when they play the video on Idiomm.

  5. Users can rate each other's comments / idiomms.

  6. If multiple users pin comments at the same point in a video, only one is shown in one play. The next time the user plays the video, or when another user plays the video, they are shown other comments from the bunch. This happens in a round-robin manner giving weight to higher rated comments, but not totally ignoring lower rated ones.

  7. So, each time you watch a video, it is like watching it with different members of the community.

  8. Though it sounds entertainment purpose only, it can also be used to take notes while watching study videos. Or while doing research.

It's my first time as a founder, though I have extensive software development experience as a freelancer. Do try it out Indie Hackers. Would love your inputs on the concept, the user interface (I have tried to keep it minimal) and your suggestions about anything you feel is missing.

PS: I think one obvious improvement would be having a browser extension which copies over the link of a video while the user is watching it on YouTube, so that they can later come back to it on Idiomm.

About

I think of it as a way for users to pin notes on top of YouTube videos (while they are playing). For entertainment, studies or research. The public / private boards lets users switch between these use cases - fun / work.
