Indie

A simple blogging platform

June 1, 2022 Two months in the making: Indie.io has its first blog πŸ₯³

I've been pushing to get the first blog live and here it is β€” Making Indie β€” a home for my build in public posts.

It’s rough around the edges, with features added or hardcoded as needed, but it’s alive! ⚑️

Making Indie will cover:

  • πŸ™Œ Successes
  • 😭 Failures
  • πŸ”„ Pivots
  • πŸ“Š Metrics
  • πŸ’Έ Revenue

The first post is live at https://making.indie.io/posts/making-indie.

Feedback, suggestions, and requests are very welcome!

May 23, 2022 Early access to Indie

I'm building Indie because I want a quick and easy way to start a blog.

  • It should come with a default style β€” nothing too fancy
  • It should have a nice editor and UX
  • I don't want to write any code or even consider the technical aspects
  • I don't mind paying for extra features but I don’t want to break the bank

I want Indie to do one thing really well, and that's to run a simple blog.

Nice work! Sounds like it would be really easy to use. Would you let us customize with CSS or anything if we want to?

On a side note, if you're looking for an easy way to add in custom domains and subdomains with SSL later, I built https://approximated.app to handle that for you as an API. You can also build your own system to handle it, it's just a pain, but I can give you some tips if you decide to go that route too.

Thank @Carter! I'm considering custom CSS but it's not a priority. If users request it en masse, it'll get bumped up the roadmap.

Thanks for the offer but I'll be using fly.io for domains + SSL. If Fly didn't exist, I'd consider Approximated.

Makes sense! Fly.io is fantastic and should work really well for you.

One more recommendation for your service: good social sharing previews. As in sharing on twitter etc. should display a nice preview. I've found services like this that I've loved but had to leave because they didn't do that well. Since that's the main way people share their blog it should look good.

Yeah, I completely agree. Social previews are high on the priority list :)

And thanks for the feedback! πŸ™ It's really, really helpful to get data points on what others look for in a blogging platform.

About

I haven't found a blogging platform that's right for me so I'm building one myself.
