A meetup to remove friction from London Indie Hackers meeting IRL, exchanging ideas and supporting each other.

Created a website

Now we're all grown up (sort of)... time to make a site.

I used carrd.co for a simple one pager. It was so simple, I'd recommend it for fellow no-coders looking to make a basic landing page.

I'll be using Carrd in future projects too, without doubt.

Held our 2nd IndieBeers event

After learning how to post a proper link, messaging a tonne of people and generally thinking no one was going to turn up, I was pleasantly surprised to host ~20 people at a pub in Shoreditch.

Our format is intentionally very simple, organic and low friction. I was pleased with how it went and we got some great feedback on the evening.

I forgot to take a picture, but will do for the next one on November 14th!

Created some branding

Perhaps I'm biased as I have a background in ad agencies and branding, but I've seen how powerful it can be to have a memorable, relevant, recognisable look and feel.

The obvious choice for something called 'IndieBeers' seemed to be a pixellated tankard of beer. So that's what we made. People seem to like it. So we're making stickers.

Had our first IndieBeers event

After a post on the IH forum, 3 of us got together for an impromptu chat over some beers in London.

The premise of IndieBeers was to remove friction from London Indie Hackers meeting, exchanging ideas and supporting each other, tapping into an existing behaviour... going to the local pub after work.

This was the first in a series of monthly events. Key learnings:

  • Be super pro-active when getting things off the ground
  • Learn to post event links that actually work
  • Enjoy yourself :D
