Great site Laurids. But I have seen so many of these sites for many years now. How is yours different if you don't mind me asking?

Hey Soni, thanks for asking!
We're trying to focus on a specific niche of tech-savvy founders. Most popular pages like Brandbucket & Brandpa just try to generalize & talk to everyone. This way it's harder for customers to find their perfect suiting name.
Besides that, we're offering a much higher quality of design for a more affordable price. Brandpa for example offers designers $ 4.5 per Logo but lists names for an average of $2.800.
We only work with selected designers & most of the logos are done by Laurids & me. This way we offer a clear line of design & list names for an average of $500-600, only a fraction of Brandpa or Brandbucket.
If you're interested in more details you can check out our analysis I wrote lately https://indiebrands.io/blog/Brandbucket-Brandpa-Indiebrands
Cheers, David

How do you decide on the names and niches? It seems pretty random.

We're trying to talk to our customers & community that has already subscribed to us. Those are people that appreciate our work & can give us the right ideas.
Generally speaking, we're trying to talk to most tech-savvy founders, that's why we have a ton of diverse names.

Firstly: we’re super thankful that the interest in Indiebrands keeps growing.
What changes helped us reach it? Let’s take a look at some of the data.
-
Google search impressions
March 147
May 5.685 +3.700 % -
Social-media traffic excluding Twitter (Indiehackers, Reddit, Quora, Linkedin, Facebook)
March 64
May 323 +404 % -
Building our audience - newsletter subscribers
March 256
May 332 +30 %
But what is behind this data?
To increase our Google search impressions we did several things.
- Set up 20 - 30 category pages listing different names suitable for specific categories. We’ve picked categories “Start-up Names” SaaS Names” “Brandable Names” etc. Helping us rank for our target group.
- Written several articles that could be relevant for our target group.
- Making sure every page is set up correctly and indexed
Now we’re good to grow with SEO - but although our impressions took off our CTR is relatively low and we only managed to get a few non-branded clicks. Therefore we still have to figure out how to write even better description & headlines. That’s something we’ll improve on to go from impressions to clicks to customers.
Next up social media (excluding Twitter):
Social media is a hard nut to crack. Because even though I focus on delivering value & benefit to readers I’m often afraid to come off as spammy etc. Also, it’s a hard place to be consistent in. There is no guarantee that posts will be seen, read or upvoted. But some things that can help.
What has worked for me so far and what I’ll continue doing:
Find communities interested in what I can provide
Give them something they will find valuable and want to interact with
At the end of a post link to further valuable content
Building our audience
It’s important to OWN YOUR AUDIENCE. The difference is: you know they’ll be interested. And you know how many people you can reach & what to expect.
We’re focusing on increasing the value of our e-mail newsletter so more users want to subscribe. One thing we already added is “SaaS Dialogue” - interviews with different Indiehackers about their product. This is relevant for two reasons
- they are a pretty good representation of our target group
- Increasing its general likeliness to open the newsletter & stay subscribed
Best thing: you can help us building our audience by subscribing to our newsletter. ;)
Hope this was an interesting insight into our work for Indiebrands. Thanks for taking the time & make sure to check out Indiebrands. Whether you need a brand or just want to read some interesting SaaS dialogue stories.

About
I often found myself searching ages for a project name. Finding one where the domain is still available is extremely hard. My goal is to make this process easier by providing names that include a domain and a logo.
