IndieMailer

A community for newsletter creators

November 19, 2019 Hit #1 on ProductHunt

Launched IndieMailer on product hunt today and it's firmly in the #1 spot. Wooooo!

Lots of traffic (and a few signups) coming in. Really good for social proof, either way.

I didn't spend a ton of time on this, mostly it was just filling out the listing with images and seeding with a good first comment (by my partner).

One thing though, I am surprised by how little traffic they send now. It's like 1/5 of what it used to be, a year or two ago.

    Gr8 idea, good luck!

November 5, 2019 Crossed 300 Members

The content that I've been writing has really been resonating with people, earning social shares, and a lot more "friend" referrals than I had anticipated.

I was also able to reach out to several newsletters and line up some interviews. It's going to be a blast to ask them questions posed by the community of creators on running a paid newsletter business.

Can't wait!

November 1, 2019 Frontpaged on Hacker News

I wrote a post on why you should start a paid newsletter (https://indiemailer.com/read/why-you-should-start-a-paid-newsletter/) and submitted it to hacker news. Within about an hour it hit the front page and stuck there for almost a full day.

The weekends aren't the best time for traffic, but I was itching to get some feedback on the idea early.

This resulted in around 4,000 visits and ~200 requests to be invited to the IndieMailer slack community. :)

Oh my goodness, same. Mail is what was cool back in 1996 - and now it's cool again.

June 28, 2019 Came up with the idea

After subscribing to bigger paid newsletters, like Stratechery, and Sinocism, for several months, I got the itch to try to create my own. So, I launched ConversionGold.com and had a fantastic launch. I learned a ton. What struck me is that there aren't really any communities or resources for people looking to create a paid subscription newsletter, so I decided to create my own.

About

I'm in love with the paid newsletter model. Through setting my own up, I was unable to find any great resources, or other people who are solving the same problems. We needed a community :)
