June 1, 2026 I checked my app's Search Console data and found I was ranking on page 1 with a 0.02% click rate. Here is what I am fixing.

I'm building Inscribe, a private offline AI transcription app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Everything runs on the device, so nothing gets uploaded. Organic search is my main free channel, so I finally sat down with three months of Google Search Console data. A few things surprised me.

  1. Impressions were not the problem, clicks were. About 26,000 impressions but only 99 clicks (0.38% CTR), average position around 8. I had assumed I needed more content. Turns out I needed to earn clicks on the traffic I already had.

  2. My biggest page was basically wasted. One comparison page had 9,482 impressions and 2 clicks. That is a 0.02% CTR, ranking around position 9. The problem was the title. It read like a generic "X vs Y" comparison, but the people landing on it were searching for pricing. The intent did not match, so nobody clicked. I rewrote it to lead with the pricing breakdown people actually wanted.

  3. A technical bug was splitting my site in two. The www and non-www versions were both serving the site, so Google treated them as two separate sites and split the ranking authority between them. While fixing it I managed to create a redirect loop that broke my CSS for a bit. Fun. I consolidated everything onto one canonical domain.

On the funnel side, for transparency: of the people who clicked through from the site to the App Store, about 58% downloaded (19 to 11), and it has made a small amount of revenue so far. Tiny numbers, but it told me the conversion part works. The bottleneck is just getting more people to the top of the funnel.

So the plan is to fix CTR on the impressions I already have first, since that is fast and fairly predictable, then consolidate the domain and expand the content. I'll report back in a month to see what actually moved.

Question for anyone who has done SEO for an app: did organic ever become a real channel for you, or did ASO and other channels give you better return per hour? Trying to figure out how hard to lean into this.
