Investment Sheets (Inactive)

Was chatting with my friend, brought up my side project. He was looking for something like this for a few months, and did not have time to automate. For the first time, something I built flew off the shelf (even if its 1 person), without me selling hard. But still I maintain, my thesis is unproven yet...

Cloned my template, fixed some UX, put in his portfolio, now my tiny system is tracking $650K worth portfolio with no-code & 5-hr effort.

Learned a few key details, how painful it is to handle this manually, even harder than previously thought. Also realized there is lot of detail to get right, this problem statement is going to be tough to do well. And I believe, there is going to be a long-tail of customizations in terms of metrics, my product must handle the long-term of custom calculations... It's going to be tougher than previously thought, precision matters, but, that's the fun right?!...

Next step, start automating the backend for a MVP. It's going to improve over a few iterations...

Mini update, I happen to stumble upon 3 people who at least share the same problem when it comes to handling portfolio in a spreadsheet. But, no idea if the solution I am proposing is good or useful. But, at least I am talking to people who share the problem!

I am posting the landing page for feedback on Indie Hackers. Also, from this week onwards, I will share the landing page on various forums to collect as many email ids as possible. It's scary to make such a public commitment! But, I think it's important that I don't skip this step.

This week I read up on tech stacks to see how I would build this product. More importantly to validate if a good-enough solution is feasible and whether I can build it. Seems like there is a decent chance I can pull it off. Though this is going to be a side project, so it's going to be a long slog!

I shared the landing page with my friend and it generated decent interest without much selling from my end, unlike my previous projects. So, now there is at least one other person I can talk to about this project. I got some critical feedback on missing features. But this still needs a much broader validation.

I built a simple landing page for free using ConvertKit to collect emails of people, who are interested in my offering pre-launch. This would tell me 2 things: (1) If anyone cares at all (2) If so, I will have an audience for my product launch. I have not built out anything yet!

Last week, I decided to start a side project. So I looked at all aspects of my life to scratch my own itch. A particular problem caught my attention. I have been managing my portfolio with Google Sheets, but it's very time consuming. What if I automated it? Investment Sheets was born!
