Invoya

GST invoice generator for Indian freelancers

May 19, 2026 I built a SaaS product in 1.5 months as a learning project — and accidentally launched it

I didn't build Invoya because I had a painful problem. I built it because I wanted to know how to actually ship something real.

Not a tutorial project. Not a todo app. A real product — with auth, payments, PDF generation, a custom domain, and actual users.

I wanted to experience every role involved in building a product: business analyst, UI/UX designer, frontend developer, project manager, investor, end user, tester, and QA. All of it, alone.

What I built: Invoya — a free GST invoice generator for Indian freelancers and small businesses. Invoices in 30 seconds, PDF download, payment reminders for WhatsApp and email, invoice history, and client management.

Live at invoya.in.

Stack: React + Vite + Firebase + Tailwind + jsPDF + Razorpay

Timeline: Under 1.5 months, solo.

Goals I had going in:

  • Learn how to build a full project from scratch

  • Learn how to deploy and make it live

  • Learn how to market a product

The moment I almost quit: About halfway through I searched "invoice generator India" and found dozens of existing tools. Zoho, Vyapar, a hundred free generators. I sat with that for a few days. But I'd already invested time and money into the project, and honestly — I realised the goal was never to win a market. It was to finish something real and learn every step of doing it. So I kept going.

What I tested with: I used Invoya myself during development. Showed it to family — they said it looked professional. Not exactly a focus group, but it was enough to keep going.

What I actually learned:

  • jsPDF doesn't support the ₹ symbol — had to use "Rs." everywhere, still annoyed

  • Google OAuth redirect causes blank screens on mobile — popup is the fix

  • Firebase auth timing will humble you

  • Deploying to Vercel with a GoDaddy custom domain takes longer than building features

  • Marketing is a completely different skill from building

Where I am now: Live, launched, doing organic marketing only. SEO done, now doing communities. No paid ads.

I'm sharing this for the builders who are in the middle of a project right now, wondering if it's worth finishing when competitors already exist. It is. The goal isn't always to disrupt a market — sometimes it's to prove to yourself that you can ship.

Happy to answer anything about the tech, the build process, or the marketing approach.

About

No good GST invoicing tool existed for Indian freelancers — everything was bloated. So I built Invoya: fast invoices, PDF download, and payment reminders on WhatsApp and email.
