Iron Pal (out of business)
Workout log for busy people
I realised Iron Pal was a big and complex project and I wasn't prepared to scale it or monetise it, so, I decided it was time to shut it down to focus on a simpler idea with an easier way to earn money.
It was a tough decision, but I'm sure it's for the best. I will always keep this project, as my first one, in my heart.
My strategy was twofold:
-
I changed the focus of my IG account and started posting before/after pics of gym progress on it. Before that, I was just posting about the app by itself, which wasn't generating any traction or interest.
-
I began using the good old follow/unfollow technique to gain new followers. The good thing is that after passing 400 followers, some people started following my account by themselves.
The account is https://instagram.com/ironpalfit if you want to take a look / follow it :)

Saw your page. Good work! My friend also has a fitness account and uses organic growth service and has 500+ organic followers in one months. followfox.io check out might help with your progress! good luck!
Two different users told me that the reordering of the exercises was tedious. It was 3 taps on the screen to move 1 slot down or up.
I added drag and drop to the routine edit & create functionalities to make it easier for them to reorder the exercises.

This one took me 3 days of writing and 1 day of research. I incluided gifs and images. It's a 'How to' blogpost. I know it's not the best type of post to write but I'm happy with the 900 words milestone as English is my 2nd language and marketing in it was a huge emotional barrier to break

One week ago I created the blog. As recommended by almost everyone, I set up an email subscription form on all my blogposts.
Today I noticed one user subscribed to it thanks to my BMR calculator post

I created a simple BMR calorie calculator on my blog. The tool estimates your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).
With this number, you can know how many calories you should be eating in order to build muscle or lose weight.
The BMR calorie calculator uses the Harris-Benedict equation.
It is available at https://www.ironpal.co/best-bmr-calorie-calculator

It's a technique to research for topics for blog posts and it helps to rank higher.
Using this technique I found that "Best rest time between sets for strength" was a good search term to rank for.
I wrote the article and I was able to reach 600 words in it. That's the double of words I managed to write on previous ones.
This is quite a milestone to me since English is not my native tongue.

I found common concerns on fitness forums or groups, then I decided to write about them on my new blog to start posting more frequently.
I'm struggling with the content length and I need to increase the quality of the blog's content, but I guess It's one step at a time

I learned that URL and app names are important. iCuerpo is difficult to spell for English speakers. I also learned how to get a blog up and running using Gatsby and github pages. Now I got a blog, a landing page, and an email list to get subscribers from the blog.

I got the code of Iron Pal from a project for the uni. I thought it was a great idea to change the UI a bit to make it mobile-first.
Then my plan was to launch the app as a PWA and on the App Store and Google Play.
I paid for a server and deployed it before the start of 2020

I lost some pounds and got fit and all I got at the time was a clunky workout log with bad UX
