August 19, 2023 My new tutorial series on learning code quickly

I took a brief break from publishing YouTube videos to monitor my organic growth and think about where the future lies with my channel. At this point, I am almost at a milestone in subscribers with a current count of 459 subs and a goal of 500 subs. My previous videos were on building and protecting Chrome Extensions (you can find the playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVrGZCP4x3PRHKbq-gDrSygGHbU4X9pTR). I have received encouragement from some of my subscribers that they enjoyed my explanations which has helped fuel my motivation to continue.

My new video series focuses on learning certain programming topics quickly. The latest video is on how to learn Kotlin in 5 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fa3pl7zJV6E.

It was tough trying to prioritize what fundamentals were important enough for the viewer to learn and keeping it all within a 5 minute range. It also tested my own knowledge of programming fundamentals and how to efficiently learn a new language if you know one already. I plan on expanding more on these quick and simple programming tutorials.

February 11, 2023 I hit 100 subscribers and ended my first tutorial series

Yesterday I ended my first tutorial series by showing users how to publish their new Chrome extension to the web store. https://youtu.be/mt7by5NRp0k

This was my first "build in public" attempt that turned out to be a modicum of success. It earned me about ~100 additional subscribers and helped me cross the coveted 100 subscriber mark. Reaching that goal felt that I "became official", so to speak.

Sometimes looking up videos on YouTube can be demoralizing when you see other creators with 10k, 100k or even more subs and fantastic engagement. I view it as success stories that people who started with meager means can make something incredible that so many people love and share. One of the reasons I became a Software Engineer was to create products that people around the world could use. Within the click of a button, these projects that you wrote can reach so many people in so many different places. It's a wonderful thing and I'm glad people have joined me in this journey.

Thank you! It makes my day to hear that

    Congrats Jerry!

January 5, 2023 I hit 50 subscribers!

50 subscribers is super small for a YouTube channel and probably laughable for most people, but for me this was a milestone. I found out sometime this morning when I released a new video in my chrome extension series: https://youtu.be/dFVxUrd1wzA. I'm surprised people have been enjoying the content and it gives me confidence to continue producing more. Currently, I've been creating a chrome extension video tutorial series. I plan on branching out to other programming topics that don't have nearly as much competition.

Congrats! I am going to push back a bit though on your:

" I plan on branching out to other programming topics that don't have nearly as much competition."

I'd be curious to know where you think there is less competition.

    Here's what you know:

    • You have 50 customers who like YOUR approach to chrome extension videos
    • Can you deepen the relationship with those 50 customers by staying on focus and making more videos in this space?
    • People can build successful tech businesses in all kinds of niche spaces -- look at https://www.speedshop.co/ which does nothing but ruby on rails performance stuff and now has an online course, etc
    • Right now you are known for browser enhancement -- can you build on that?

    Congrats again.

I'm on the same page @jerryhacks I'm with 57 subs and 88h of watched time. it gives a huge confidence boost and make us want to produce more and more content.
I'm also blessed that all the comments for now are positive.

    Let's keep it up!

Well done, Jerry. Small but steady growth. Keep it up 🙌

December 29, 2022 How to make a chrome extension - my first tutorial series

Launched my first programming tutorial series! I'm uploading videos one by one as I make and edit them.

My third video is about creating and styling the popup window:
https://youtu.be/5iF9xOIFEAs

I've been mulling over what topic I should create a video tutorial series on. Around this time period I was also trying to find a way to get a Global Entry interview close to me. For those familiar with the process, you normally schedule an interview after passing a preliminary background check. However, all of the interview appointments were taken months or even a year out.

After doing some research, I discovered there were ways to fetch appointments that had just been canceled by someone else. This was a perfect opportunity for me to create a tool that could automate the process. This became known as "Global Entry Drops" and serves as the basis for my chrome extension tutorial.

In this tutorial series, I walk through how to build an automated global entry interview finder using all the power that the chrome browser has to offer.

August 30, 2022 Launched my channel with my first video

My channel is focused around software engineering, startups and productivity. I've had a fascination with chrome extensions so I decided to launch my first video by detailing the pros and cons of developing a Chrome Extension startup.

My previous startup was an extension based one that was acquired. As a result, I felt I had some unique perspectives I could talk about in this video. It can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qdYszMjlLE

About

I wanted a channel that produced quick and simple programming and startup videos. I'm interested in Computer Science and felt YouTube would be a great way to share knowledge while honing in my video creation craft.
