April 12, 2026 I spent 5 years as a recruiter watching the system break people. Today I lost my job and became my own customer.

Before I was an engineer, I was a US IT recruiter.

For five years I worked at staffing firms — SoftNice, SoftHQ, GlobalEmployees — sourcing candidates from Dice, Monster, LinkedIn Premium, running Boolean searches, negotiating W2 and C2C rates, pushing resumes through ATS systems that I knew were rejecting good people for bad reasons.

I saw things from the inside that most people building "job search tools" have never seen.

I saw a perfectly qualified senior engineer get auto-rejected because his resume used "managed a team" instead of the exact phrase "team leadership." I saw recruiters — exhausted, quota-pressured — skim 300 resumes in an afternoon and miss the best candidate because her experience was formatted in two columns and the parser couldn't read it. I saw candidates send 400 applications and get three callbacks, and blame themselves.

The system isn't broken because people are lazy. It's broken because it's built on a lie: that a 6-second human scan of a keyword-matched resume tells you who can do the job. It doesn't. It never has.

I kept thinking someone should fix this. Then I realized the people with the technical skill to fix it had never worked inside the machine, and the people who'd worked inside didn't know how to build.

So I learned to build.

Full-stack first — Flask, React, Postgres, the usual grind. Then AI. I got obsessed with what LLMs could actually do when you pointed them at real problems instead of toy ones. And the problem I kept coming back to was the one I'd watched eat people alive for five years.

JobPilotX is what happened.

Multi-agent AI that actually reads your resume — not keyword-matches it, reads it — understands your career arc, finds jobs across 100+ boards in 40+ countries that genuinely fit, writes a uniquely tailored resume and cover letter for each one, and applies on your behalf. Across email, LinkedIn, company portals. Chrome, Firefox, and Edge extensions. Stripe billing, GDPR compliant. Built solo.

Most founders in this space are building for candidates they've never been. I'm building for candidates I spent five years calling, rejecting, placing, losing to competitors, and watching get worn down by a process that didn't deserve them.

Here's the part I didn't plan.

Today — the day I'm writing this — I lost my own job. Six months as CTO at an edtech company. Unpaid overtime. No equity. It ended today.

I'm in Malta on a student visa. My residence permit is still processing. I have about two months of savings. I can't legally take local work here until the paperwork clears.

The tool I built for candidates like the ones I used to place is now the tool I need for myself.

That wasn't the plan. But it's the truest product-market fit story I'll ever tell: I'm my own first desperate user. Every friction point I hit this week will get fixed next week. Every bug is personal now.

If you're job-hunting, try it. Free tier, 10 applications a month, no card needed. If you're a founder reading this and you want to trade notes, my email's on the site.

I'll post updates here as I use it to find my next role. Win or lose, in public.
