Works for JOMLAUNCH 2021 has begun. And we rolled out a new website this. Unlike our 2020 event, this year, we only have one website, which is the main JOMLAUNCH website, which is in Malay Language though.
JOMLAUNCH 2020 last year was organized as a 6-day event. The first 5 days were the JOMLAUNCH Malaysia event, and the last day, one a Saturday was the JOMLAUNCH Asia.
We are doing it different this year. It will only be 5 days. All the morning sessions will be the JOMLAUNCH Malaysia event. And the afternoon sessions will be the JOMLAUNCH Asia where we'll have speakers and experts share their knowledge.
At this point, we have confirmed 4 speakers.

If this wasn't a virtual event, we'd be going out for dinner. At least that is what we used to do during previous JOMLAUNCH events. After the event, we bring the speakers, sponsors and the JOMLAUNCH team out for a great dinner.
Alas, the lockdown and the Covid-19, we couldn't.
There is still some movement restrictions here in Malaysia but we could still go out. But night life is limited as everything needs to close by 10pm. So shops closes as early as 8pm.
However we've planned for a lunch feast sometime in the future.
But anyway...
We have a great week.
- 20 projects were presented
- We picked the top 5 projects, that will present their ideas to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation
- We selected the first prize winner, with a cash prize of RM1000
- We had 25 sessions through Airmeet, including the opening, closing, speakers, project showcases, networking sessions, technical sharing, etc
- We ran 7 real-time quizzes via Quizzizz (prizes to be shipped)
- We did 3 lucky draws before JOMLAUNCH started to encourage ticket sales (prizes to be shipped)
- We had a 4-day coding competition for DigitalOcean App Platform
- Three winners won $500 in DigitalOcean credit and $50 for swags
- We had 6 solo founders / indiehackers share their wisdom and experience @kylegawley @fajarsiddiq @craftzdog @ryzalyusoff Asep Bagja (tanibox) and Warren Leow (Amazing Fables).
- Our technical sharing session between Monday - Friday we delivered with the help of @farez, Saqina (Persona Theory Games, Peeyush (DO), Gupta (DO), Hatta (talking about Elixir), Hadi (RunCloud), Nurshafira (talking about no-code).
- We had about 300 people registered on the Airmeet platform for JOMLAUNCH
Of course, the best part is the sharing by the speakers.

JOMLAUNCH started as a gathering of programmers where we talk JOMLAUNCH Malaysia Week is mostly joined the local programmers. We showcased 20 projects. Some are personal projects, while others are commercial in nature. We don't mind either. We just want to showcase the project and get to know about the brains behind them.
From Monday to Friday, we had 3 mini events everyday.
- In the morning, from 10am to 12pm, we had the project presentations. Four teams will present their projects. So 20 projects in total
- In the afternoon, from 3pm to 5pm, we had technical sharing sessions. We had sessions about DigitalOcean App Platform, Elixir-Phoenix, No-Code, Ideas & Validation, and Cloud Architecture.
- In the evening, from 8pm to 9pm, we had a networking session making use of Airmeet's Speed Networking feature
On Monday, we had a Launch Event, officiated by the minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry. But all was done through video conferencing.

Our promo video is finally ready. Since this is a virtual event, we asked our speaker to record themselves with their own smartphones / cameras. And then we edited them into this cool video.
Actually I paid my friend to do it. I am not much of a video editor. What do you think?

I finally list JOMLAUNCH Asia on ProductHunt.com. https://www.producthunt.com/posts/jomlaunch-asia-virtual-conference
At first I wasn't sure whether or not to list JOMLAUNCH Asia. It is not a "product" perse. It is more of an event. But I see other events listed on ProductHunt.com, so why not.

When we decided to do JOMLAUNCH Asia as a virtual event, we spent weeks checking out virtual event platforms. Actually, most are totally out of our budget. But then we found Airmeet. And Airmeet has been very responsive to our questions an inquiries.
I like Airmeet on how simple it is, and I believe that it works for JOMLAUNCH. And also, this fits our budget.
So there you go. We will have JOMLAUNCH Asia on Airmeet. Check them out if you are about to run a virtual event yourself.

About
Developers tend to hoard their works and never launch. JOMLAUNCH aims to show that others that do are just normal people like them. Some don't speak English very well. Some are not every really good coders.
