June 17, 2024 How did we get the first paid user?

Launching a new product is always a mix of excitement, uncertainty, and a whole lot of hard work. Here's how I celebrated a small but significant milestone: getting our first paid user for JotMe (https://www.jotme.io/).

Posting Our Scrappy MVP on the Chrome Web Store

My journey began with the launch of our very first MVP (Minimum Viable Product). It was a simple, scrappy Chrome extension designed to solve a real problem. It wasn’t perfect, but it was functional. The goal was to get it out there, gather feedback, and iterate quickly.

Reaching Out to Active Users

Once the extension was live, the next step was engagement. I made it a point to connect with our early adopters. Every month, I send out personalized emails to active users. These emails weren’t just updates—they were invitations to invest in the tool already adding value to their workflow. Each email included a Stripe payment link, making it easy for users to support our development and gain access to more features.

Persistence Pays Off

The first few months were slow. No payments came in, but I remained persistent. I continued to engage with our users, listening to their feedback, and refining the product. After three months of consistent outreach and improvement, I finally received that first payment notification from Stripe.

Celebrating the Milestone

That first payment was more than just a financial transaction—it was a validation of our hard work and the potential of JotMe. It proved that someone saw enough value in our product to pay for it. This milestone gave us the motivation to push forward and continue building a tool that could truly make a difference.

Getting our first paid user was a small but significant step in our journey, and it taught us the importance of persistence, user engagement, and continuous improvement. Here's to many more milestones ahead!
